Half-Life: Alyx Non VR on keyboard and mouse / First mod (driver) that allows to complete the game

Buy a 2nd hand vr, play it over weekend and resell it if you think vr isn't worth it (vr got me into gaming). You will lose less than $20. $20 cost to play a masterpiece vr game that's a sequel to a great franchise released 13 years later. 13 years you waited and you want to spoil it for $20?

Are the console commands automatically disabled even though I tried to enable them?

Well, it's a start. Hopefully a non-VR total conversion mod isn't too far from release. Experiencing Half-life: Alyx's story in a traditional Half-Life gameplay environment would be great to have for alot of people who can't afford a VR headset and a VR ready PC.

the only way to play this game is remaking it from the ground up(removing all the interactions, making it a standard hl2 experience with a different story). hopefully some mod team will work on that once the source 2 SDK is out and still it will probably take the same amount of time to make as Black Mesa lol

Novelty at best. I would rather watch someone else playing it on You Tube than use this mod.

i prefer Unreal Academy's version for one reason over r57zone, no black bars when turning in his you can see the edges of the goggles are sculpted with the black bar it looks terrible and induces sea sickness a little

This is pure pesantry. This game is not only boring in 2d, but it's impossible to control. Why would anybody play this?

The movements seem a bit too jittery to me and I hate the floating hands. I really wish Valve would come out with an official non-VR sequel.

The game is absolutely stunning on ultra loving it so far my only issue is movement care to explain to me what movement sliding is and the rotation some advice might help.And i can only move in 4 directions.

At last someone did this mod. This game is a hand simulator. :D Nice that someone did a non VR version, when Valve was sh.tting on the most of the player base, who won't buy a VR set for one boring game. The motion in this so revolutionary game is so bad ,that most of us get motion sickness...

It's cool but takes away what makes the game fun.

Been PC gaming for 30 years, VR gaming since 2013 ( Oculus DK1)... Alyx is a game changer for VR and gaming in general. Making it mouse and Keyboard is like those videos you seen of mods to make Crysis or Skyrim run on a potato.. You're missing so much and you don't even know because you have no frame of reference. You're drastically underselling the VR and what it's all about because you've never experienced it. When you do, You'll wish you hadn't spoiled this experience with a 2D monitor.

The beauty of this game, which you can see here, is that even if it had been on mouse and keyboard only (properly designed for it of course), it would have been a great game. It's a great story, great looking and engaging world.

But then they managed to take VR and mix it together for a revolution.

It takes what we all know from great games on PC, and puts you INTO IT. And blows your freaking mind in the process. No other VR games do this, because no other VR games are truly great games. Most are like promising tech demos.

Having gone through the game in VR, I'd happily go through it even with a janky mouse/keyboard mod like this just to relive some of that experience in maybe a new way.

And that should tell you something about good games and VR:

VR doesn't make a game great, and great games don't need VR, but together? Together you've got something truly extraordinary

Honestly this would be a bad game in 2D pancake.
It's an absolutely incredible game in VR. It's all tied together into an experiecne that Valve has carefully crafted.


I think some non VR players underestimate what VR actually brings to a game. You can't just flatten a VR game, just like you can't really just force a pancake game to be VR... cough Skyrim VR.
The jump from Pancake to VR is the same kind of jump as from 2D SNES Mario to Mario 64.

I don't mind if I still need a controller. I am just a bit concerned of whatever effects a VR headset could have on our vision over time. Is it any better or worse than a computer screen? Right now my monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster XL-2370HD and it never has bothered my eyes. It is a 1080p and I could use it as a TV if I wanted to but it is only used as a monitor at this time. I know that computer screens are very different from the big heavy CRTs some of us might even still have sitting around somewhere. Chances are if you have an old TV, it is probably a CRT. I wish that I knew someone with a couple different VR headsets. Then I could try them before committing possibly hundreds of dollars to buying one of my own. For now if I was to try one, I would want to get it from a place that has a very good return policy and is even friendly toward used returns and preferably even allows more than 14 days for it too. Anyhow, for now I will just look at other games that are not VR or come in both a VR or non VR version. I am new to that kind of thing. The closest thing I ever had were LCD shutter glasses that sync to the monitor. They came with an Elsa Erazor III that is no longer in use. That was back before some of the people who would read this were born.

Didn't know something as crap and gimmicky as VR could have shills too; no wonder stuff like this [3D, 4K, -add your abbreviations-] never fade completely despite the utter cash-grab nature of them.

as some one who read the entire comment section, stop taking this for granted. This was built for vr, so things have to be cut, which is not the devs fault. If you complain about shortcomings of porting it to what it wasn't intended to be, then go buy vr. This is extremely impressive on it's own.

I'll only try this when it reaches a more playable, half life 2 style gameplay.
The way it is now, it's only vertigo-inducing key pressing mess, not fun at all.

Добрый день. У меня появился еще один вопрос. Я сделал, все как вы показали в инструкции, но как вы запускаете стим вр и у вас сразу все нормально? Я, когда его запускаю, у меня написано: подключите вр шлем. Что мне делать? Подскажите пожалуйста!
Upd: я прочитал вашу инструкцию, там сказано, что нужно нажать параметры комнаты-маленькая комната-калибровка 170 см, но меня уже на 2-м пункте обязывают подключить шлем

I launched this game from my desktop one tome and I was randomly in 2d mode. I could walk around but I couldnt aim. Really strange.

Valve is a piece of shit for making this game VR only. They made this game to sell their shitty hardware playing on people's love for the half life series. Fuck you valve.

if we can use the phone for vr headset(cardboard)looking around and momentum controls will be with joystick (with croshair and curson not with hands) it will be insane

Not worth it. Frankly, this game is a spit in the face of the fans of the original franchise and nothing more than a cash grab.
The effort is commendable, but it would imply buying this bullshit. There are people out there who medically can't play/use VR and the fact that it's not even an option is disgusting.

So much work for nothing. This can be called "playable" but this is not "play" this is strugling nightmare and i was very disapointed that Alyx is VR only. So many fans was wiped out when Alyx was released as VR only. So shame i think. Good job to ahndle all VRs to do non-VR version but i think is not enjoyable... playable? Yes enjoyable? not very..
