ОтветитьI can smell the wood shaving from here !!

I MADE FURNITURE WITH MY GRANDFATHER WHEN I WAS A KID. STILL HAVE THE TOOLS. I DABBLE A BIT. BUT IN MY OLDER YEARS FIND GREAT SOLACE IN DOING PROJECTS. PEACE and Love my Brother. In Jesus name amen
Ответитьmade a set work great
ОтветитьSuch a joy to watch you Mr. Sellers. Thank you
ОтветитьFantastic video Paul!
ОтветитьHello Paul, where is it possible to buy such as sticks of wallnut or mahogany?
ОтветитьDear Sir Sellers
Just a quick question. Is it the wooden part of piano key or the Ivory of them you use for inlays?
Please fire your camera person or get a new camera. Half your awesome videos are out of focus. But with that said keep em coming.
ОтветитьJust bought your book and am going through the fist project (the spatula). I am so excited to begin my journey. Thank you so much for your work and sacrifice, Paul.
ОтветитьSir, you are amazing!
ОтветитьLooks like he used the table leg he spent half an hour in a previous video getting perfectly square to be the support piece when drilling the center mark of the winding sticks!
ОтветитьI absolutely love how you always show us so many alternate ways to perform certain tasks. Thank you.
ОтветитьTop!
ОтветитьHow to make a winding sticks,
1. Get a pair of winding sticks....
Kudos to you for giving us so many options for making these! Definitely a Master!
ОтветитьThank you Paul for your videos. Although I'm not going to make this one, like the "tit bits" (other hints) I pick up about how to do stuff. In this one I the 1st one is how to drop the saw at the back to saw a straight line. Thanx again. Keep up the good work & I salute you.
Ответитьwhats wrong with using a square and twelve inch rule? If I made these they would become lost when I needed them. I also use a flat plate.

ОтветитьOkay, I'll ask a dumb question: how would I get a beam of timber that is square all round without winding sticks in the first place to check my Face for twist? I know the obvious might be, machine it, but that seems to defeat the object.
Ответить5/8th builder asked me why i dont just use a circular saw to cut it down to width
ОтветитьThank you for this, The section on inlays was particularly helpful. I've been struggling creating that kind of recess on some 5mm walnut which I'm using to make a box. You've given me some new ideas to try, right as I was feeling like giving up.
ОтветитьI'm finally getting around to make a pair of these lovely winding sticks and am wondering why the inlays need to be recessed into the sloped side?
ОтветитьThat was a nice work! You are very crafty and talented person! Thanks for the tips! Will built my own!!! :)
ОтветитьThank you for your great video
I have to say I was shocked to see you use a power drill lol
Your a great teacher
Preparing the tiny, slim inlay pieces seem the most difficult.
ОтветитьIf you learn more than the lesson, you have a great teacher. Paul you are one of those teachers.
ОтветитьOK Paul, great videos all of them, but I do have a bone to pick. You call them winding sticks well up here in the cold and desolate North they have always been winnding sticks. We use the hard i as in gin. This is because we called a twist "out of winnd". I use the double n to show how we pronounce the word. If a man said it was true out of winnd, then the piece was twisted. It just grates on my ears when I hear them called windeing sticks.
ОтветитьWhat is the best material to make them from? I made a set from mahogany and after few years they worped
ОтветитьWonderful to watch. Thanks a million for taking the time to teach us.
ОтветитьWas wondering from anyone that made these, if you think 3/4" would be thick enough. I have 3/4" mahogany, do you think that would be ok or should I glue up to make a 1-1/2" piece? Thanks!
Ответить2022 checking this Ol Paul sellers out deep in the south of USA. this guy I could watch and learn from all day long. Reminds me of PBS woodwrights workshop. thanks for the Videos and website to find this information
ОтветитьSay there paul do I have to make the winding sticks 16" inches long/ how about 10"inch or 12"inch long phil USA. 🇺🇲
ОтветитьI was planing a small piece of would and cut into the shavings. Didn't realize I planed skewed. Checking with these at first may have help. Nice vid Paul.
ОтветитьI think it would be better if he showed people how to make winding sticks with inlays that are READILY available . None of us have large pieces of bloody ebony or old piano keys knocking about.
ОтветитьGreat video. Thanks!
ОтветитьLook for mahogany table leg blanks, cut offs from the lumberyard, these blanks and their cutoffs are often beautiful clear quarter sawn wood. Clear quarter sawn stock is important to not having pieces warp or twist after sawing.
ОтветитьThankyou
ОтветитьI suppose it doesn't matter what part of the log these pieces come from, they are so small; but quarter sawn seems a good choice for stability!
ОтветитьThank you Mr. Sellers for all your shared knowledge.
For cutting those small rabbets I like to use japanese marking gauges. They have little cutters. You can buy the blades seperatly and make your own... It works great. I also use it to cut very thin stock.
Anyone kno how old Paul is ???
ОтветитьIt always freaks me out a bit to see this man use a power tool. It’s like seeing a Viking take the subway.
Ответить"but just think of the exercise your missing" !! classic!
ОтветитьWith all the 'carpenters pencils' around what is the significance with the pencil you use?
ОтветитьI was considering using 2 spirit levels. In addition to visualizing the winding sticks lining up, I could also use the bubble
ОтветитьThank you Sir Very detailed. Thanks again.
Ответитьhow do you cut the angles so perfect
Ответить
