Thank you Ron, Yes it doesn't have much life lift. I don't know how she does it. I would love to see her turn some day she is amazing.
ОтветитьThank you,
ОтветитьMaster Carl is your address the same as the one you sent me a while back? I have something nice I made for you that I want to send and if it's a post box will it hold boxes about 6" by 9" ish?
Ответитьthanks for the video ! Quick 1. When you sharpen chisels, you try and remove that burr on water stones, the burr you make after using these grinders. On woodturning tools, it seems that no one mentions the removal of that burr. Is it the opposite of a chisel? you'D want to use that burr to help cutting the wood which comes down into the tool when spinning ? tyvm ! Guillaume
ОтветитьThank you, There 120 grit stones.
ОтветитьYes you can remove the burr with a stone. On the scraper you want to leave the burr though it makes a nice clean cut. I don't remove it on any the my tools and I get a clean cut.
Ответитьperfect tyvm again ! :)
ОтветитьEnjoy your videos Carl. What bulbs do you use in your lamps. I just started posting a few videos and need to improve my lighting.
ОтветитьThanks Carl That help me out immensely.
ОтветитьI thought I heard you say some people sharpen on the side of the wheel. Please, Please tell people to not do this! This is very dangerous and could cause the wheel to explode. Only sharpen on the end of the wheel and not the sides. I have watched all your video's some multiple times, I have learned loads from you, easy to watch and understand, keep up the good job. Hopefully in the near future I will post a video of my own.
ОтветитьGood one, Carl! I bought a lavallier mike last summer and am still struggling with trying to get clean audio with it. You can't have it on the front of you or the chips off the lathe hitting it sound like a machine gun. I have had the best results with the mike taped on the back of my shoulder where it picks up my voice well when I have my face shield down. Unfortunately it also picks up a lot of clothing rustling when I move around. Good Luck! Bob
ОтветитьAnother well done vid Carl, thanks for doing these, I learn something everytime I watch them. Question, at about 6:48 into the vid when your showing your camera mount there is a tool hanging on the wall under the left hand light, looks like brass...what is that? Thanks again, Tim
ОтветитьThank you Tim, It used to find center on a piece wood.
ОтветитьHi Bob, Thanks I'll play around with it. The machine gun sound might be fun to play with in editing :) Take care, Carl
ОтветитьThank you I'll pass it along to everyone. I have seen this done before I didn't know it was dangerous. I look forward to seeing your videos. Take care, Carl
ОтветитьCarl I thought that you said you got a black hawk from Capn' Eddie some time back if so is the Wolvereen a better setup
ОтветитьHi Steve, Thank you, The three small lights are halogen and the two on side are just regular 60 W bulbs.
ОтветитьI did have a Black Hawk but I switched to the wolverine about two years ago. I think it's a little more stable.
ОтветитьOk Carl, What is your software for your editing?
ОтветитьI have to admit that , although I am probably old enough to be Carls big brother, I am a groupie.your easy to follow demonstration of the one way caused that " oh , now I get it "light to go off. it is vey important , especially for us newer WT , that we can clearly see what is being sharpened.Per haps some day I will be skilled enogh to show something. Thanks
ОтветитьWere you using the Varigrind or the Varigrind two? Is there a real difference ?
ОтветитьHi Andrew, I use Adobe Premiere.
ОтветитьThank you John, I'd love to see some pictures when your ready. Take care, Carl
ОтветитьIt's the Varigrind, I haven't use the Varigrind two so I don't know if there's a big difference.
ОтветитьI took a trip to Woodcraft today to redeem some birthday gift cards. I asked one of the wood turners about varigrind/ varigrind 2. He uses a varigrind.Apparently they are essentially the same except the V2 has hardware so that that the long V arm of the oneway does not have to be shared with the V2.He said he prefers the V only because it is a little less bulky for traveling. He said if he did not travel he would use the V2 because one can leave it set up.I bought one but have not used yet.
ОтветитьAnother great vid Carl, loads of info for us new to turning. Posted my first turning vid and think I need more lighting. Keep up the good work regards Glyn
ОтветитьThanks Glyn, I'll go check out your video. Take care, Carl
ОтветитьI think you should point that a full face shield should be worn at all times when using the grinder.other than that a fairly good video
ОтветитьYes, Great point,
ОтветитьAt least your one who mentions about looking around for the subject, One tip I picked up on was to use a black marker to mark the grind on the tools. Then you know you are getting it right on. I think you may have mentioned that on a earlier video you did on tools and sharpening. since I had a WorkSharp for my plan irons and bench chisels, I bought the lathe tool bar and Tormek jigs. but as most say,use what your comfortable with.
ОтветитьI enjoy all your videos. Many great insights and tips! I'm not new to turning. Until recently did all tool sharpening by hand. Purchased PSI's sharpening system. Very useful, does a great job. Like many turners I too used skew only when I had to. After putting new edge on skew and watching your videos, my first practice session went great. It is the 1st time roughing out blank using skew chisel. Many thanks! Also purchased oneway safety center just in case, also a useful tool! No catches!
ОтветитьHi Michael, Thank you, It took me a long time be comfortable using it too.
ОтветитьWhat are the grits on the grinder? That is Woodcraft grinder I think. They pulled all of the orders for QC issues. I went and got a Porter Cable low speed instead. Cap'n Eddie has one as well.
ОтветитьHi Jack, Yes I got the grinder at Woodcraft. I have 120 grit wheel and I just got a new diamond wheel it works great.
ОтветитьCarl, is the diamond wheel from D-Way? If not what make is it? I am in the process of modifying my Robo Rest to fit my Porter Cable slow speed grinder. After many measurements, I think I have a way to proceed. Robo Hippy (Reed Gray) has really been a great help.
ОтветитьHi Jack, I got it at Woodcraft but I just checked there website I can't find it. I don't know the manufacturer.
ОтветитьHey Steve, I got that same set-up you are using, you have 80 on one of the stones and 120 on the other. Just an fyi... great video
ОтветитьHi carl what wheel disc do you use to sharpen thanks m8
ОтветитьHi Alisha, I just got a new diamond wheel and they work great.
Ответить
hello, i have a 5/8" drive bench grinder. im having trouble finding a wheel that with fit or even an adaptor for a 3/4" wheel. some wheels that ive found come with plastic bushings but ive never heard anything good about them. if you could offer any help it would be much appreciated. thanks
Os teus vídeos são muito bons, eu tenho acompanhado aqui do Brasil, parabéns pelo belo trabalho
ОтветитьHi Carl,
This is the first of me noticing this particular video you did. My problem, or one of them, is sharpening my 'Oval' skew chisel. Any suggestions?
Great video thanks for sharing :)
ОтветитьThank you... I have had problems with my bowl gouges....I think you showed me exactly what I needed. The relief cut was the thing I needed. thanks Cheers
Ответитьwell still doing it the old fashion way for now. on off on off you know what I mean. trying to catchup on your videos ben out of town . will have new grinder next week. lol will have to watch video again when sharpening next week
ОтветитьGood Idea man! :D
ОтветитьThank you for the informative video.😊
ОтветитьHay Carl. Do you have a video for which chisels to buy for complete beginners? ... like, which ones to buy first off. I'm guessing one of each of the tools featured in this video would be a good start. But also brands. I'm living in New Zealand atm (but I live in Australia too ... just not during this Covid 19 thing). I joined the Woodworkers Guilde here and one of the lads told me about your channel. I grew up building stuff with my Dad (being a woman though I wasn't able to go into the construction industry as a teenager, well ... I thought, back then anyway, hindsight is always 20 20) but never really got into cabinet making or woodturning . Really happy that I found your channel now though. Just gotta get some more tools together! Appreciate your knowledge 😎👍
