This is the absolute epitome.

Pay attention to how Pop Staples ends his verse. His delivery of the who verse is so understated that one might think he can't really sing. However, for about a bar or so at the end, he pulls out his vocal expertise. Don't blink or you'll miss it.

If they ever get around to making a biopic about the Staple Singers (IDK maybe they already did?), it will be a crime against humanity if they don't get Alfre Woodard to play the part...

One of the best ever.

Obviously The Weight is great by it’s own merit - but there’s something special about this one. Side note : Mavis was a FOX. Then when that voice belts out - holy hell. She’s also a badass - even still to this day. Her newish song “With My Own Eyes” is powerful.

They’re all gone now, and I’m close to 80, but I have my memories of seeing them live in NYC. They live in my heart. ❤
