Barreleyes

On Today’s Creation Moments Minute, we look at a fish that sees without eyes.

Almost all sighted animals that aren't insects see with eyeballs. But that isn’t true of a fish named barreleyes. The fish has this name because instead of eyeballs, it sees through tubes, which it can turn in different directions, depending on what it wants to look at.

Even stranger, the eyetubes are inside the forehead and don’t come into contact with the water at all. How can it see if its vision organs are inside its head? The fish has a transparent forehead filled with transparent liquid. Now, what’s the purpose of such a strange arrangement? It’s because barreleyes eat jellyfish-like creatures that sting. The transparent forehead protects its eyes from getting stung.

Barreleyes' uniquely designed eyes are impossible to explain with gradual evolutionary modifications of regular fish eyes. Obviously, barreleyes had a designer!

For Creation Moments Minute, I’m Darren Marlar.
