I bet a guy like Jake would hate to know that his joke about homophobes being afraid they might like gay stuff is a line Joe Rogan has been using for years, almost verbatim. I’m not saying he stole it, it’s just so obvious anybody could write it. Here’s something to consider about the implications of this: Jake is a hack, but that might not matter that much if he was actually competent enough to capitalize on people knowing his name because of the Beast drama. When you try and gauge whether somebody can “make it” in comedy based on whether they’re hacky, always remember that ‘showbiz’ is a bullshit industry where the connections you make (along with fortunate timing) have a lot more weight than they do in industries where there are actual stakes for mistaking a fraud for a person with merit. A guy like Joe “loud = funny” Rogan built his career using the same hack comedy instincts as a guy like Jake Weddle. There are plenty of other examples besides Rogan too; Amy Schumer, Dane Cook, “Larry the Cable Guy”, etc. You could name unfunny comedians who had lucrative careers for as long as you care to think up examples. Make of that what you will, but some people seem to believe meritocracy can (or does) exist in the same way many lefties believe in “true socialism” and they are just as delusional as one another.

Jake is doing the most basic first comedy class kinda jokes. He hasn’t developed the punchlines on the kiss cam joke, he basically just says the premise. He is doing “I look like X” jokes which have been hack for the last 10 years. He’s also constantly giggling at his own jokes.

Jake Weddle is oddly enough very talented in being a sort of jester and target of ridicule, sort of like a Spenny, but even less self-aware. He just needs a manager or someone above him that understands this and pushes him into all sorts of embarassing situations under the pretense that Weddle is some kind of beloved celebrity.

Jake’s cadence and erratic chopped up joke delivery is horrible. It’s akin to any shitty open mic night performance in middle America, bad. I can see why $60,000 went down the drain… he could dump $600,000 into it, no amount of money can make you funny…

Nothing I hate more than having to sit and pity laugh at a comedian who only showed up with self-roasts because they're too uncreative to bring anything fresh or engaging to the table, but also too soy to sling the insults at anyone but themselves
