MuseScore in Minutes: The Basics of Score Writing

When I try to enter triplets, the program changed the value of the note. I wanted to enter 1/8 note triplets, but after selecting triplets, the note values were changed to 16th notes.

As someone who was entirely new to MuseScore, I discovered that using the software to input music was an incredibly enjoyable experience. Initially, I encountered a few challenges and minor mishaps as I navigated through the various features and functions.

However, after spending some time watching instructional videos and tutorials, I gradually began to understand how everything worked. With patience and practice, I soon became more confident in my abilities and started to appreciate the full range of capabilities that MuseScore offers for music composition and notation.

The learning curve was certainly there, but the satisfaction that came with mastering the software made the journey all the more rewarding.

This fast tutorial was almost exactly what I was looking for. I think a key thing missing is editing instruments instructions, like adding them, deleting, interchanging, etc

why do they say musescore is free but when ever you try and do any thing with it like download free sheet music there is a charge by the year so they try and con you into paying for it musescore is a rip off

I bought one of the big notation programs a while back, however learning how to use it has turned out to be quite a roadblock for me. Seeing the growing popularity of Musescore, I thought “ah well, I’ll give it a try”. And it’s actually not only easy, but also fun to use. So thank you everybody who’s making this program possible 😊

Hmm -- not sure why the dotted half note from Musescore 3 disappeared in Musescore 4. Anyone know how to create a dotted half note? I was hoping this video would explain how to create the missing dotted half.

I found this video very informative. I tried MuseScore several years ago out of curiosity, but continued to use Sibelius for my professional work. However, Sibelius have become very greedy; their subscriptions have risen dramatically this year alone, and their customer service is very poor. Unless you choose the professional edition of Sibelius, it is quite poor and very limited. It seems to me that MuseScore has since become very easy to use. I am aware that it also has its different editions and does charge for the most complete version, but the prices looked very reasonable to me. I don't mind paying for good programmes or tools if they do the job, but their is a limit as to how much is fair. I also believe that fairer prices will lead to more rapid improvements and a greater clientele. I am looking to abandon Sibelius forever, but will need to become quite expert on MuseScore first. When I had problems with Sibelius in the past, I would phone them, but found the foreign accents nearly impossible to understand. They would give me a limited amount of time for them to try to solve an issue, and if they couldn't would promise to phone me back. But calls would come at 2.00 or 3.00 am from abroad. Now, it is almost impossible to speak to anyone there; you have to use their online messaging service, so I don't feel Sibelius can justify their outrageous pricing, and their music writing software is far from faultless. I have just received the MuseScore handbook (used) which I ordered online. It may be slightly out of date now, but I'm sure it will be helpful in many ways.

i hate muse score 4. Here I am trying figure out all the stupid bugs and changes.

How come that all videos dont show how to add more pages so u can compose more...and how is it sooooo complicated...just insert a button with add pages

Can you use this software to edit a piano sheet pdf that you downloaded from MuseScore??? Or are scores other people have published unable to be edited? I have a score that I downloaded that needs to be corrected to reflect what’s actually played by the original artist.

i'm having so much trouble with this program, I cannot delete rests or replace them with actual notes. super frustrating.

Thank you very much for this tutorial. I am trying to find the hot keys command to repeat the note (accord). I was using something like this in Sibelius but it was long time ago and I don't remember. I believe it exist in MuseScore as well. Also cannot find the possibility to copy and paste just 1 part of the measure only for R/L hand. Thank you in advance!

How do I get to the screen where I can compose. It just says for me to download but it’s not showing on homescreen or taking me to a websige

how do i hold a note while playing other notes instead of it automatically deleting all the notes? For example I am trying to hold a D note for the rest of the measure while playing F then a lower D

Maybe it's just me but this has got to be the least intuitive piece of software I ever worked with.

Hi everyone. If you have an Existing MuseScore subscription and don't use it, remember to unsubscribe as soon as you can.

Their ToS states that their refund will be only a percentage of the automatic payment made, dependent on usage. The max refund from 0% usage is 50%, beware. And afair they don't advertise this upfront.

Their ToS also states that they will send you a notification email about the resubscription. Said notification is hidden as an email to you about their product features, buried at the end of their email that has no hint of the subscription automatic payment renewal reminder in the subject line.

I'm having fun with this at school with my students. Some things are kind of confusing. My students were wanting to write 8 1.8th notes, like 4 "TeeTees" but it keeps inserting a rest and changing them units of 4.

Thank you for the tutorial. I’m writing a piece for choir using a SATB closed score, but then would like to transition to regular SATB score that separates each part for the score. Then I’d like to go back at some point in the piece. I tried adding but then it adds to the whole score. Is there a way to switch back and forth and keep a specific score style for number of measures and then go back and whatnot?

I absolutely hate using mouse to do WRITING. I don't write text by clicking letters with mouse. How do I write music with computer keyboard?

Musesore totally sucks. Can't even insert a beat to edit a measure, you have to rewrite the whole measure. You can't select groups of notes to move around or cut and paste.

How do you delete a note?

so shift clicking while using the virtual keyboard doesn't actually let me make a chord? not sure if there's a setting i changed or whatever

i am making my own version of Avengers with Orchestra and Drumset and this really helped since theres really difficult parts!

And what about the quarter note ?! Yes I can write it in the program, but It is not played
