I loved this rant. It’s exactly how I feel about EVE.
Ответить😊Been playing a month, joined EH corp.. Had soooo much fun found a relic site yesterday that was littered with Mines.. Lost my astero in the blink of an eye 😅 good times :)
ОтветитьLol. Nah man, it doesn't just sound arrogant. It IS arrogant. Your logical fallacy is appeal to authority.
ОтветитьI sort of agree with your statements, BUT the problem is that your analysis breaks down with regard to new players. New players 1) have no ISK, 2) no reliably way to make ISK, and 3) no friends.
CCP gives you some limited opportunities to get a bit of ISK through training missions, but it's not enough to bootstrap yourself up into anything fun. You basically get enough starting ISK to get one or two half-assed ships, which you are destined to lose immediately, since every predator in the PvP ecosystem is more experienced than you, and [they] also have FAR better ships (tech II stuff is better across all metrics than tech I). Losing ships is fine if you have billions of ISK banked, and tons of hulls and parts you got before everything inflated, but is really problematic when you have serious trouble replacing a tech level I destroyer hull with shit modules fitted. Yes, you can get free corvettes, but they can't do any interesting content.
Perversely, trying to just build up funds through industrial activity (i.e. no PvP) is a trap, since alpha clones can't get the necessary ships or skills, and without those things, you are relegated to unprofitable activties (basic mining) that ensure you will go broke when (not if) you get repeatedly ganked.
You could try and join a Corp, but you don't know anyone. This means you can (and will) be the target of lots of scams, and will be repeatedly taken advantage of. It also means most players will just shoot you, since you are completely unaffiliated (thus just prey).
Excellent analysis as always spot on !
ОтветитьI liked this video, thanks for sharing your perspectives, ... sorry: absolute truths. I've played solo, which is a lot of fun, just cruising around, comparing spreadsheets, ... IN SPACE! and I've teamed, which is fun, too. I do love how Eve is Eve, and it's uncompromising in its Eve-ness. I respect this game for what it is, and that it doesn't try to pander. "This is the game. You play it this way." and doing so just works. Oh: and sad-face gif 😥 because I listened to your whole video.
Ответить" I dont wanna hear that im wrong" ok well its the internet youre wrong :D
ОтветитьIf you are looking for a game that has evenly applied rules. Eve is not for you. If you believe its a game and people shouldn't come after you in real life. Eve is not for you. On the other hand if you want developers that not only favor certain players much more than other people. If you want the biggest cheaters coddled by the Developers. If you want to be streamrolled into a small portion of the map and fed into a meat grinder that runs at like 2 frames per min. Then Eve is for you.
ОтветитьI can’t wait to get back into eve
ОтветитьMy love for PvP has been the reason I've chosen to only train subcap ships. It provides me a flexible arsenal of inexpensive PvP ships to play with and learn with.
Ответитьit's cool and all but I would love someone to sit beside me and answer questions when I try to learn eve, I am constantly trying to get into it but I get frustrated that I can't find stuff in interfaces drown there and just leave till next time xD
Ответить100% agree.
What he is talking about is the equivalent of a person starting to play Age of Empires saying "this should have first person WOW mechanic combat"... or going to WOW and saying "This game needs hardcore survival mechanics" .... etc etc.
Play the games that you like playing.... not all games will be what you like... so either dont play them... or go into them with the mindset that you want to try to embrace something new.
Thank you for this video I came back to eve to try it again and this video gave me a different perspective than what I was playing years ago now I get it Eve is a pvp game 😅 I think it should even be on their logo instead of it saying Eve online it should say Eve PvP😂 with a slogan "no one is safe"
ОтветитьPornhub whilst Null ratting XD THat made me laugh far too hard XD
ОтветитьI like how you conveniently addressed a counter argument and then said that you wont entertain any discussion on it. That is not how public speaking works. I agree on everything except the fact that a game that has no model on long term sustainability will die. No matter the success in the short term, it dies. Look at how desperate CCP is in their attempts to make other games in order to make up for the lack of growth that EVE has. They know the gallows are calling and they need to find a way to expand in order to survive and thats a fact of the market and I'm not willing to entertain any further discussion on that fact. (You did I can too).
ОтветитьThe whole argument about "The point of this game is to have sh1t blown up so that the market remains alive and profitable" is literally how some aspects of capitalism works irl. Some companies design their products to last only to a certain point so that you can buy another one from them or get it repaired... And make them more money. Otherwuse if they designed the perfect product that will never break and lasts a lifetime then people will just buy it once and then never again lol.
ОтветитьI’ve never had a game give me the kind of adrenaline dump and finger jitters that Eve can during PvP. Overcoming that and winning a PvP fight is an epic feeling.
Ответитьthe only thing i dont like is vary little isk for the jobs being done for the high cost of the ships eve online is doing this so you will buy the plex but i like the game. but i spend 90% of my time tring to make money .
ОтветитьNullsec blobs should be illegal lol who's actually having fun in Sov battles 🤣
ОтветитьK space is dead.. you'll get ganged up on with little odds to survive. If not on grid, it'll happen at the gate lol. Play wormhole, it's how the game was meant to be
ОтветитьWish I hadn't seen this video, your other content is good, this is just bitter complaining.
New players are the most important things for CCP, thinking that old vets are going to keep this game alive forever is just ignorant and quite frankly dumb, a big part of them don't even pay real money for the game anymore.
Guess who buys the plex?
The whole tone of this video reminds me of some FCs we had in the past that always expected perfection, always started raging over mistakes and never put any effort into helping those that made mistakes.
As for the game is dying, there's a reason why CSM was created and it wasn't because of good will from CCP, it was more like "Please don't leave, we'll include you and try to fix this together".
Guessing you missed the first decade
If you don‘t hunt you are prey 😂
Fully agree and its really entertaining to see how you go off 😎
"After being a space nomad for months, i now have my own fitted Loki! Time to REALLY engage in deep space exploration!"
"Good thing im also financially stabld thanks to my colonies."
spends the next month spinning it in the hangar
desire to not lose it wins out
havent played for months
I haven't played for almost a year becaue of it. I get far too much anxiety due to the connection that ISK values exist in tandem to the USD which makes me see all unnecessary losses as legitimately losing RL money, even if i went through everything ingame only. If losses were just meaningless ingame currency i would care far less.
However, i know myself well enough and i am impulsive enough that if i miss something and desire it a lot i will cut every corner snd speedeun my way there...which includes cash shops. That overbearing sword of damocles kills me for some reason.
Calm down bro
ОтветитьYour second main point on eve is a pvp game by default made me laugh, not that I disagree with you but the way you dumbed it down for even the dumbest people to understand. I remember the first day I started this game and took a trip around the eve universe on my first day. Not sure how many jumps I did but I know I ended up in null sec from caldari space and not long after entering I was swiftly killed and podded back to empire space. I knew from that moment that I was hooked on this game Admittingly my main focus is more on the industrial side these days but I still find it enjoyable compared to other games.
ОтветитьHere's the biggest truth, 90% of gamers do not like hard games, they've been pampered with easy pew-pew games. I know I shouldn't say this, but watch Asmongolds attempt at Stalker 2. I've been in this game for over 20 years on and off, and when I make a new char, the rookie chat drives me nuts wondering how they would have got on in the beginning, the amount of people who rage quit at scanning was hilarious, and they still complain about it now when it virtually does most of it on its own. One thing I will say though is that when I started I was a full time carer, so at any point would have to just leave the game and sort problems out, so I never really got the chance to get involved in PvP, and I'm nearly 70 now so don't think I will.
ОтветитьRecently had a freighter going through infamous Uuhanlamen 0.5 , think I spelled it wrong but you know the system. Scouted it out before crossing over. Didn't see a blob of nados or catas. Looks good to cross I thought.
So I let my guard down and became really careless hauling like 2.5B worth of no-weight skins I could've hauled in a frigate. I was cutting corners and just wanted to get the freighter back to jita.
Well It was not safe after all and was targeted by a bumper. Kept bumping me preventing full alignment. 5 minutes later stuck in this embarrassing moment of failed alignment he brings his blob of 30 or so destroyers(likely mutltiboxibg). Made some silly mistakes and probably could've saved the ship but instead my brain shut off and I went into panic mode. Many lessons learned that day xD
I am at 2 minutes and I think you are wrong.
Ответитьi started a few days ago and i want to play solo with a cloaking device , explore, do relics and hacking like a rogue agent
ОтветитьEve online is trash. The community is trash. The staff/mods are trash. The graphics are trash. Dont waste your time. The game is populated with mods devs staff and their friends and families. Dont bother.
ОтветитьEVE Online has nothing on X4:Foundations.
Ответитьheads up, isk inflation still happens lol
Ответитьtook a 6year break, came back yesterday. Here we go again lol...
ОтветитьThe only part that I don't think I ok with is the fact that you work your butt off and then in an instant all your work is lost because one guy is in the mood to screw you over just because they can. Thankfully I haven't made too much advancement in the game. I just got into it, but that is the one thing that really twists my gut... putting in this effort, tossing a few bucks into the game for some stuff. Now, I'm not big into Cosmetic stuff either and maybe that is something that breaks me. I don't care what my ship looks like, really. As long as it does what it's supposed to, however you have those people out there that will lord that over you, and that just makes for a uncomfortable play space. I don't know, like I said, I'm still getting my feet wet in the game and my opinion may change in the future. Good to watch this though. Really made me feel ill that these are the 3 primary truths of the game, though... I am someone who looks forward to the stories. I have heard a few that was really wild taking place in EVE and THAT is what got me interested, knowing those are PLAYERS in the game that had these cool stories. As I am a Roleplayer, that is what interests me the most, and I am still trying to find my place and a group that I can get in with that will respect that gameplay loop for me.
ОтветитьI agreed but I play echoes and is nothing safe about ..😅😅
Ответить🫡 great video
ОтветитьI plsy solo and I love it. I yhink it can be played both wats. By those who want to go it alone, and by others who prefer multiplayer.
ОтветитьWhen people say they don't like the PvP in EVE they're not talking about the whole game, but rather a segment because that's how other games are structured. PvP is bolted to the experience like an optional minigame rather than essential to its character. It's not immediately obvious to players that the game is designed around player conflict to the degree that it is, and that not liking the part where players attack you directly is kind of missing the point. In a way these kinds of explainer videos don't really address the problem. EVE is in a league of its own when it comes to player conflict and that's really hard for players to understand, and the game has never, in its 20 year span, figured out how to explain what it is to other MMO players.
ОтветитьAs much as i love Eve! With over 2k hours played so far and still loving it. No matter how important it is to the game for ships to be destroyed, i'll still sometimes be butthurt about getting ganked and making a huge loss to my finances that can set me back for the day or longer. Eve should never be changed, but my capsuleer hates being blown up regardless of the reasons that are larger then himself 😂
ОтветитьI love this game, i will absolutely say that you, Captain Benzie, brought me back to actually try the game again. I tried way back when back in 2010 and couldn't figure out some of the stuff at the start (mainly because I was sleep deprived as a College engineer student). I started a few days ago and am hooked. I don't like the idea of losing my ships just yet but i know it's a possibility. I've already run into the pvp aspect but haven't been too bothered by it, I hope that i don't' lose my ship for a bit until i get enough Isk to be able to somewhat replace stuff, or at the very least get a better understanding of the game to learn from my mistakes.
Ответить3 years ago i got smart bombed while warping and quit, ive come back to continue where ive left off, because i now know, its time to lock in and be one hell of a industrialist, printing ISK and laughing maniacally at wars kicking off. Eve is one hell of a game, there aint nothing like it.
ОтветитьYour absolutely spot on. I started playing eve online in 2009, and I gotta say, I really had some moments where I thought it wasn't the game for me. That's was until I met a group of players that made the pvp aspect of the game fun, and guided me through how to start small, and eventually work your way up to where your comfortable and not worry so much about being blown up, because your not flying expensive ships. Eve requires patience and nerves of steel. Something a lot of people struggle with, which is why it's not the game for a vast majority of new players.
ОтветитьIf they only had a discount for the disable on fixed income for Omega, I started playing year 2 and had to give it up after becoming disabled. I have played just about every space game since the first Elite in 1984 and wing commander on Sega and PC
ОтветитьSo Captain Benzie, do you like Eve? i play solo because i have no friends
ОтветитьBeen playing this game since 2017 and honestly no game gives me what EVE GIVES. I played as an industrialist, faction warefare, wormhole space and so on. It’s so much fun
Ответить"...with a total player base of 10,784,222". Yes, very niche. Berk.
ОтветитьAmen brother. Haha I've only just started playing and it's not a quick and easy start. I've got bloody pads with all the things I need to do, go, and builds for my future ventures. It's the best type of escape for someone like me. It's scratching my Elite dangerous itch, and some. Once I'm more experienced and getting my head round the politics of where to go and not to go. I'll put money into this.
Ответить
