There's a reason when I would play this with my friends we would choose to begin the world in fall so we could spend all of fall and winter preparing for spring and summer.

(claps hands) Reign of Giants, YES! This is my fave version of the game--FOUR SEASONS, not just two! The new characters! The new biomes! (I love the desert and birch forest. :)) The catcoons, aka KITTIES! The new mechanics! Heck, even the new bosses! It's all just (chef's kiss) mwah! Just the right amount of new difficulty for me--like the right amount of spice, it adds that little bit of kick! that was missing--but doesn't full on burn your mouth (as Hamlet does, for me. Oof.)
I've always most enjoyed Don't Starve as a proper character-vs.-nature story. Reign of Giants is THAT. Even though this is a year-old episode: Godspeed, and I'll see you on my playlist. :)

I'd recommend trying the other DLC's as well, and once you think you're ready trying to beat the game. To do so, I would 100% recommend reading a guide on the "Adventure Mode" gamemode on the wiki, because it is sooo confusing without help.

You put Weber's skull into a grave to get Webber as a character

Flower picking is a bad idea for sanity. Cooked green and blue mushrooms restore sanity. Also taffy, which you can get from honey (3 honey and a stick in the crock pot). Bee's require flowers to make honey so you need to put a bunch of flowers near bee boxes. Also, butterflies spawn from flowers and eating their wings give you health. The hat you get from Mr. Walrus gives the highest sanity boost and it's also really warm.

Yeah, summer is a bitch lol. There's a reason Don't Starve Together removed the feature where you could randomly spawn during spring instead of autumn. (It's still possible, you just have to manually enable it in world gen settings)
