I had to find a way to cheat on the whole 3D thing.
Eventually I settled on combo of pre-made 3D models, wiggling or animating in Google SketchUp, recording with screen capture and composting in After Effects.

Low level 3D hack animation - As After Effects CS3 cannot genuinely animate a 3D model.
Here is the version of this video with the audio fix.
Sorry it has taken so long.
