Excellent stuff - really good and mentally challenging. My question/concern about e-bikes is this - what happens if you crash an e-bike at 30 mph? I'm in Austin regularly. Lots of bikers in Austin - and lots of fatalities every year.

I have a monthly bookclub with women that initially were friends of my children. We have an amazing group that somehow have similar interests - we all work (with 2 x early retired now). We have been meeting for 10 years now and made lifelong friendships. We rent a house for a weekend every year and it has been great! It is probably a little more luxurious than MMM’s one but still fine between 9-10 of us. I was worried in the beginning about the food costs but everyone wants to cook and we eat all out meals at “home”. We have a roster and people love planning what they will cook for the group.

MMM is doing the opposite of most people who spend a lot then retire to spend little. Pete is spending more on luxuries now that he’s retired. Front of the airplane, lower level seats etc…

Did someone say ebikes? Ride1Up is definitely a great brand but there are some considerations (as there are with all brands/models) but one major one is assembly for those new to bikes (on some of their models). They take more skill like attaching the front hydraulic brake caliper, installing a crank, fork, rear rack etc.) Still a great value brand but you might want to leave assembly to the pros if you're not confident.

On the cost of living differences. Look at CA Tax vs Nevada/Oklahoma/Texas state taxes. Not just the rent differential needs to be considered.

No, actually life expectancy has actually dropped a couple of years recently. Crime is way up. Tons of people dying from all the drugs being smuggled into this country.

City living == noise, concrete, smells, crowds. HARD pass, regardless of prospective income. This bumpkin will be happily out in the boonies.
