That was not smoke following liftoff but hydraulic fluid leak. Note the tilt of the main gear and subsequent open gear doors on approach. Loss of hydraulic system.

Landing gear retraction sequence did not carry through. Main gear tilted but gear doors did not open. Nose gear doors opened but nose gear did not retract.

Why would you put text on the screen literally a second before the mains touchdown...

The landing gear retract failure was likely due to the trail being hydraulic fluid caused by rubber puncturing the lines, not smoke, hence the bay doors laying open on landing which would've fallen open as the fluid emptied out. The pilots would have had to shut off the lines. It's a pretty serious incident hence why they came back.

Pneumatic tyres are such a great idea aren't they. I have had 3 burst in potholes already this year. Even better that they fit pneumatic tyres to planes. Yay!
