just do 3x82=246, move it one decimal, done.

I didn't like this explanation at all. Our host went too fast and didn't deal carefully with each step. Phooey.

If it's easier to do it this way, you can also flip it around. For instance, 30% of 82 is also 82% of 30. Its easier on nice round numbers, but still works.

10% of 82 = 8.2

8.2 x 3 = 24.6

Thats how I do it

Talk about the long way of finding the answer. Short way is .3 x 82= 24.6

How is this simpler than just multiplying 82 by .3? This adds an EXTRA step. A simplification should be reducing the number of steps required, not adding to the problem with...another problem to solve.

to everyone who won't shut up about multiplying by 0.3, he's talking about doing fast mental maths, it's way way faster to divide by ten and then multiply by 3 or vice versa in your head. Multiplying by 0.3 isn't a "trick" that's literally just the question that is being asked. I don't think many people can just mentally multiply by 0.3 without multiplying by three and dividing by ten as separate steps.
He called it a trick for a reason goddamnit, because it's a faster way to do it mentally, it's like the trick for figuring out if a number is divisible by 9 or not, it's a trick, no shit you can just divide by 9 but very few people can actually do that in their head.
Saying "why not multiply by 0.3" is like being asked what 37 x 20 is, someone saying the trick is to do times ten and then times two, and your response being "why not just multiply 37 by 20?".
I've also seen a lot of comments saying to "just multiply by 3 and then move the decimal" which is literally exactly what she showed but in a slightly different order. ugh.
sorry I got heated over this but it really ain't that hard to understand that he was talking about mental maths lmfao.

Or, just flip the percent and say what is 82% of 30. You can deduce it’s 24.6 from there using process of elimination in all of 3 seconds

10% move decimal to the left once from the number you’re trying to find the percentage of, 1% move the decimal over twice. Makes quick calculations easy for any percentage. You can do it in your head pretty easily most of the time.

Although it gives the same correct answer; but that just complicates the problem. It should have been made easier and shorter by multuplying 82 by .3 = 24.6 !

Since my childhood days, when I was yet an elementary grade school kid, about my 3rd grade, I already found mathematical formulas as my own way of finding the easiest and shortest ways of solving problems related to numbers -- and the same have now been known as mathematical formulas -- which, regrettably have already set me aside as if irrelevant to the evolution of such formulas and solutions as the credits to my efforts have now been kind of usurped by "teachers"/professors, "math wizards".

There's been no justice in this world !

These hacks add additonal steps.that make the person have to think in extra parts. Math builds the quicker you move through the components the less time you have to get sidetracked. These are not hacks...its a method...and a long one at that.
