What is worse is that the congressman has the question on a paper. If he had prepared that document for the interview, how did he not take a few seconds for thinking about what he was going to ask 😅. They asked similarly dumb questions of Zuckerberg at previous senate hearings a few years back. I believe these grillings are just the government trying to throw their weight around and show who's boss and intimidate wealthy, powerful social media execs. Zuckerberg was equally confused by the questioning. Facebook eventually fell inline. Musk did not, Musk made a public comment of being able to buy twitter, then the politicians manoeuvred to force Musk to then buy twitter which they knew he couldn't afford at the time. They thought that would intimidate Musk who still didn't backdown to their pressure. They are trying the same thing here. It was ment to be an inquiry into child online safety but the questioning has nothing to do with that.
