Best way to buy a car from a private party

Do we need those papers notarized? Or no?
And how can we make sure that it's a legit title and a legal seller?
How do i trace it if the car is owned by someone else or has a title lien?

Quick question, so a "clear title" basically means clear of a lien, but that also doesn't mean the title is "clean" right? It still could still possibly have a rebuilt, salvage title I'm assuming just trying to understand.

Dumb questions!

1. When do you actually pay for the vehicle? after every thing is signed? Where? At the DMV? At the bank? (to verify cashier's check?)

Should we get the bill of sale or signing of the title notarized?

What if the seller has a lien on it? I'm in California, he's in Florida, so it's an out-of-state purchase. We are using eBay motors and escrow to protect both of us, and I'm paying his loan directly to his bank. But he still has to sign off on the title once he gets it, but what protection do I have if he never does that even though I have possession of the car?

just want to add, you can find a pre-written bill of sale template online for your specific state.

I want to purchase a private party car out of state. So once I have the bill of sale and the title and all signatures and everything lines up. I can pay and drive the car back to my state or will we have to file with the dmv in that state.

So , what if the car is still under lease the seller want me give him the money to pay the car in the bank and we do the bill of sale
After two weeks the bank will send the title under the name of the seller and he will send it to me after with my name written down in the title?

I think you meant to say that the Seller must enter purchasers name. Thats literally what it says on the title example. You said the seller has to enter his own name. Misinformation
