What Causes Stick Drift Controller and How To Really Fix It

I just bought mine and its fookimg new.. i only play sometimes in The weekends and i allready have this problem with my Controller.. i have had this controller for 2 months tops!!!! Its fucking crazy never had this problem with ps3 or ps4 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

The issue is with manufacturing. Moving the controller grinds up against areas that may not have been fully evaluated for clean precision cuts with no frayed edges/residue. Same could be said for the round resistance pad the metal ring grinds on. That's why you most likely find blackish residue and/or small black shavings when cleaning. Very important to check for Q-Tip hairs after cleaning. I prefer alcohol pads as they fray less as long as they are still wet on a couple of passes.

Thanks a lot for this video! Cleaning it with alcohol solved the issue for me. If the stick drift comes back, I will replace the potentiometers as suggested.

Ive experienced drift on PS2 & PS4 and some RC controllers, buying a can of Electrical Contact Cleaner, which also has a lubricant and spraying the potentiometers often works without having to disassemble them.

Crazy all the issues w a controller that was arguebley the biggest seeling point for the ps5 along with better graphics. This new controller will change gaming as we know it etc, except we'll make it extremely cheap and you'll have to replace it many times dumb gamer.

This is literally the reason why I'm not buying another console path this generation and why I'm planning on getting a PC because there's so many creature comforts for PC where is of console just continuously has more issues and then want you to just pay the ass to get anything done

Ironic my original 6 yrs old dualshock 4 has no issues at all, but when i got a new Ps5 the fresh controller has a drift stick right away

Drift on both of my controllers started about two years after I got them. Cleaned them both out, it fixed one temporarily and didn't do anything for the other one. Now, about 4 months later, I've had to do it again and one was once again unaffected, and the other one that fixed the first time got even worse

The court case against Sony for drift is Turner vs Sony Interactive Entertainment No 4.21-cv- 02454 in california. A group of gamers agreed to the software licensing agreement which lost them their rights which is nothing unusual, it usually has an arbitration clause (to resolve issues out of court). They agreed to it initially to use the system as there is usually no opt out, then sent an opt out of arbitration letter, and then sued with a court case. The right to resolve matters through the courts are litigation. The case is still going a couple of years on and they now want a jury case and help to continue it. You can do the same, in opting out of license agreements to retain your rights but it probably has to be done very early on, and you can still carry on using your console and games. There are letters from lawfirms online showing arbitration opt out letter examples. The firm Chrimicles that handled this case also offered a similar PS5 letter but seem to have removed it for the time being

Thanks for the clear explanation! I realized that other controllers use the same modules so I replaced a drifting Xbox controller stick with some wipers from an older Dualshow 4 and it works perfectly again.

I opened mine up cleaned it put it back together now the right stick doesn't work at all lol. Whatever you do don't open it! Stick drift was super bad so it was useless regardless.

Took my controller completely apart and just cleaned all surfaces and the part the sticks connect to, and it fixed it lol

I dont know if people can find this comments , but you can send youre Controller or buy a Controller with the hall effect v4 that destroy stickdrift forever. You can get one for like 70 bucks

They used a magnetic type module on older controllers it practically looks exaclty the same as these but inside a magnetic that lasts forever. Now this scam. Why not use what always worked?

only thing that will change this is consumer rights. Which are almost non existent in the US. As long as the big buyers don't regulate, companies will see no reason to change. This is just terrible design. Pots are used in so many things and can last for years, their design of a pot is just weak and cheap.

Ive had 2 ps5 controllers drift right out of the box. Every ps5 controller ive owned has this exact issue.

I followed this guide and not only did it work perfectly on BOTH of my controllers that had this problem, it actually made my vibration zones start working properly, I didn't even realize there was a part not active until after i put it all back together. 10/10
