MTP 60: The Reality of Shockwave Therapy for ED

On this week's episode of #MTP, Dr. Perito answers a viewer's questions about shockwave therapy as a treatment for ED and the likelihood of an inflatable penile implant that can be controlled via a phone app.


Shockwave therapy is still very much an experimental procedure and doesn't currently have enough supporting data as to its efficacy and safety -- overuse of it can actually lead to penile scarring in the form of Peyronie's Disease.


As to the penile implant controlled by a mobile app, the current primary challenges posed is that an electronic implant with long term application would be prohibitively expensive. That being the case, having an electronic pump would help with patients who have difficulty manually pumping and deflating their current implants.
