I have tried clean eating, but without the fun things to eat, it becomes a drag. Great video!

Hi there this is a great channel. I'm 58 years of age, and a full time career for my mum, so I hardly go out therefore I have started doing 60 pushup in the morning 🌄 followed by light stretching. And I do the same amount in the evening. I'm hoping to work towards 100 push in a day. I walk my dogs dogs each day to. I don't care about my age as its just a number. I'm I doing this right ✅ kind regards

I like something I heard Brian Sanders say in one of his "Peak Human" podcasts.

He said: What you eat determines how much you eat.

At a high level, I agree with it. But, of course, people are complex beings and many of us (including me) have a history of food being intertwined in our lives in a variety of ways. Had all of us grown up eating whole, unprocessed foods, stayed lean, stayed healthy, and food wasn't given as rewards or withheld as punishment, then most of us would probably have had an easier time. Food could have simply been something we ingest out of necessity, in order to be able to do other things. It could have been like putting fuel in our car.

Obviously, this wasn't the reality for many of us. Lots of emotions are entangled and reinforced over years and decades. Food is used as comfort, there's nostalgia involved ("I bake cookies, because the smell reminds me of my childhood and making cookies with my Mom."), and it can be used in shaming others about their body composition. Then, diets end up inflicting more pain on people, though not intentionally. Though I'm better than in the past, I'm still weird about food and some of the rules I've learned from various diets.

Having a "cheat" meal is a tough one for me, because once I taste it, I'll want more. Around my last birthday, I had around 13 pints of ice cream, over the course of about two weeks. Plus, a couple of bags of pecans that I would add to the ice cream. At the time, just for fun, I calculated the total calories, fat grams, protein, and grams of sugar. Though I don't recall the specific numbers, unsurprisingly, it was a lot. Finally, I stopped, if only due to the cost. The ice cream and nuts totaled about $75 USD. Were I wealthy, I might still be eating ice cream. :-)

These days, I've gone back to daily fasting (between 16 to 20 hours) and eating two meals. I doubt I'm even reaching my caloric needs for my BMR, so, while that puts me in a calorie deficit, it's also probably not healthy. I worry about the metabolic effects, based on the idea of "Caloric Flux," as described by Ari Whitten. Eating above my BMR would be fine, if I were able to do enough exercise to create a calorie deficit while in in a High Flux state. But, I'm not able to do so. Thus, I feel stuck.

So, I may as well go back to the ice cream... (just kidding)

Great video however I truly do recommend you count your calories and have some type of calorie restriction at the end of the day you will have to restrict something from your life if it’s easier carbohydrates fats processed foods whatever it is you decide to follow you will have to do some type of restriction by Khalid tenure calories you know your maintenance calories and you know where to go over and window to go over this is very helpful and has been super helpful for me as well.

I am trying to and started to look at food as fuel for the body. I don't want to make eating a priority in my life so I just try to choose the best fuel for my body and mind to experience life at highest mental clarity I can master.

Clean eating is sustainable though. My dad was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about 20 years ago, and overnight started eating completely clean and natural foods. He literally never cheated. And said that after a few years his sweet tooth completely died. Like a piece of chocolate to him would now taste like eating sugar out of a bag with a spoon. I took a leaf out of his book, failed many times... but eventually realised that its easier to give up sugar than occasionally have it. Your sweet tooth dies eventually and you don't even crave sweet things anymore. Of you have it occasionally, your cravings never quite die. Wouldn't work for everyone, but if anyone's wondering.. its absolutely possible to keep up clean eating. I just find too many channels and people in general say its not sustainable... it is sustainable though, it just takes a lot of discipline initially, eventually your taste changes and sugar tastes like chemicals.

Clean eating with a "cheat day" works great. Been doing this for ages and am not obsessed with food and don't daydream about my cheat meal at all. Also I'm very much happier NOT eating a bunch of garbage, then feeling like garbage because my body resents what I just put into it. So grateful that slop has no power over me anymore.

This is just semantics! Clean eating isn’t a thing, it isn’t a diet. Eating clean is avoiding HIGHLY processed food and ADDED sugar. So, you don’t cheat! You don’t decide I’ll do this 80% of the time. You make healthy changes in your diet and and lifestyle. It’s not about weight loss, it’s about health. Avoiding diseases. You’re talking about people who have poor relationship with food or not educated. And if your chicken breast is dry it’s a cooking issue. And you don’t eat what you don’t like. You are actually talking out of both sides of your mouth...

It was easy for me to cut out sugar and processed food about a year ago and I can honestly say I don't miss it. Other than that, I don't put any restrictions on my diet - it's predominantly plant based, but not exclusively. For me it's not about weight loss but being healthy.

Why would I want to stop eating clean if it works for me? Stop giving wrong advice and making money off of it. You have not tested every single person to know what will work for them and what won't. If it didn't work for you stop discouraging others that it's working for

I think most people feel like they're missing out because they're don't want to make the time, to do the required food prep. There's no shortcuts, you have to put in the work to continually make delicious clean meals. Once you have a library of super tasty clean food recipes, and maintain the motivation to make them, then you will never feel the need for processed or sugary foods. Making something like a herbed salmon with spicy salsa salad takes prep, but keeps me on the straight and narrow.
