Keep things separate and go back to the standard insurance. The extra cash VS the incident and confusion you’re currently experiencing isn’t worth it. It’s all good until something happens and peace of mind is invaluable.
ОтветитьI think we’re all flying under the regular insurance radar unless the host has added a rider to their personal insurance for ride share or actually has some sort of commercial policy to cover their car or fleet if that applies.
ОтветитьWhat you did was exactly right. For one if you contact the insurance of the renter at fault it will do nothing but cause confusion. At this point you are clear of anything on your personal insurance. Anyone claiming Turo's insurance is a scam is a complete moron. They have to protect themselves no matter what just like we do. The level of coverage is up to us. The people that have no experience in these situations always have an opinion. Just the personal experience you are gaining by trying this out is worth it.
ОтветитьI use the standard. 3 accidents on Turo. I always get the payment and the car fixed. So far no problem.
ОтветитьI think there should be some hierarchy of how insurance gets applied. For example, in a scenario where a third party vehicle is at fault, and both the host and the guest have basic insurance where a deductible is present, Turo should first go after the third party's insurance to get the full amount of the repairs and not charge either the host or the guest for their deductibles. If an accident is the guest's fault and both host and guest have basic coverage, the guest will be responsible for their deductible and the host should not be responsible for any deductible. If an accident is the guest's fault and the guest elected to waive the coverage, then the host will need to pay their deductible if the host chose basic coverage.
In the first scenario (your scenario), the host should not be paying the deductible especially if Turo is going after the third party's insurance and then getting the full repair amount. In the second scenario, the host should also not be responsible for paying any deductible since the renter's coverage should have already covered the repairs in full.
While this might not be a "scam", it's definitely a massive profit machine for whoever is collecting on the insurance money as the insurance provider will at least breakeven with the hosts choosing basic coverage, and make pure profits from any renter selection of insurance coverage and third-party liability. Again, not an actual scam, but definitely a cash grab. At no point should the total cash distribute for repair coverage across all parties exceed the actual value of the repair. In this instance, Turo would have collected $3k from the third-party vehicle and then paid $600 to you for a total of $2.4k in profit (probably their way of making up for the lost revenue from hosts choosing basic coverage, in addition to implementing a deductible). The total amount spent to cover this repair across all parties would have been $5.4k ($3K from third party insurance and $2.4k from you) for a $3k repair.

ОтветитьHave you looked into feet insurance? Does it make sence given the number of cars you have and is it cheaper or more costly going that route?
ОтветитьI went through turo and turo paid me off. Whoever turo goes after wasnt any of my business. All i know is that i had the standard insurance so wether it was there fault or not i was still covered with turo
ОтветитьIf turo cant collect its just a write off
ОтветитьDo you know how to get a promo code for Turo? I want to book a car for 5days
ОтветитьThe lowest tier insurance seems to be a poor option unless you are making large profits overall and the average amount of accidents is low. Personally I’m sticking with no deductions 30% for now. I have a turo claim for rental that was rear ended in a hit and run. It has been a month arranging repair due to the supplemental process being delayed
ОтветитьAny experience with interior damage? It seems like all the Turo insurance language refers to body damage. Have you ever made a claim, other than smoking or cleaning for something on the inside?
ОтветитьI had my Tesla model 3's tire slashed while the car was rented. The renter had premium insurance , so they were not charged for anything. Turo only paid out 20% to me on basic insurance. The claims agent said, had it been renters fault, they would still pay 20% to me, even if they collected full amount from renter. This sounds like a scam from turo. They use the terms most favorable to them regardless of how much they collect from insurance premium.
Ответитьwith all that has happened since switching to basic, do you plan on keeping basic? or do you plan on going back to standard?
ОтветитьI'm also a host in the LA/LB area with over 1k trips. Basic insurance works as an overall benefit ONLY if you can directly go after 3rd parties that hit your vehicle. I would stick to standard insurance on accident prone /high risk cars ( think family movers vs. sport cars/joy ride cars).
Recently had a accident happen where my renter was NOT at fault, I got all the 3rd party information and filed a claim with their insurance directly.
The 3rd party insurance worked FAST, got the car appraised, fixed PLUS LOSS OF USE! If you let Turo take over this case, they will get all of that and pay you 20% (They actually make $ because of loss of use and pocket the 80% they didn't pay you).
When this happened, before I was able to even file the damage claim, turo was QUICK to process the claim for me without my request (because the renter reported it). I had to admittedly tell Turo to step down and not proceed with the claim.
What you do in situations like this: 1. File the claim and select that you'll work it out with the renter 2. If it isn't going anywhere, you'll resort the last resort of having Turo take over the claim (you have 10 days).
Try to file the claim directly with the 3rd party if you still can and tell Turo you'll take it from here. I was able to literally save over $2000 by doing it myself instead of letting Turo profit over my loss.
"Is Turo’s Insurance a Scam"
Yes. Yes it is.
How are you able to run a business on Turo and not know these basic details on how the platforms own insurance works? 🤔
ОтветитьI've had 3 claims in 6 months of business with 80 completed trips I run basic insurance coverage and with all three claims all I got back was the 20% from Turo the rest I had to cover
ОтветитьThe 30% commission on gross is ridiculous, you must be a shill or bad at math.
Ответитьyes
ОтветитьThis, being my first year on Turo, I have had two incidents with two different cars. As per the policy, the claims were processed, photos uploaded, etc. The claims were paid, but later on, I found that the renters were paying out of pocket for the $500 deductible. I really felt sorry for them, but there was nothing I could do.
Going forward, the first line in my Turo car profiles is a short explanation of how to avoid this. I tell people to check with their credit card companies. See if they will cover the entire cost of the rental and can cover any accidents. I noticed that when I got a new credit card over the summer. It will cover any accidents by declining the rental co's insurance and putting it all on the credit card. I try to pass this on so it will help avoid any future incidents with the guests having to pay out of pocket.
So , I got a big question about how TURO works when your car got "totaled". Thing is I got a BRAND NEW FORD MUSTANG GT like 2 weeks ago and car was totaled just last night , been asking TURO about this situation since it is the first time this happens to me and I have no idea how things work in these cases. I know TURO should pay off my car , right? But here's my major concern , when I was getting this car I put some money down ($2,500 to be exact) so what's gonna happen with that money?
Did I just lose the money?
Btw , my guest is in jail and got a DUI and my car was flooded.
I use Turo's premium insurance for my 2019 Tesla model 3. So far I've had fast, free payouts for damage (rims once, windshield once). It is worth it to me. Only 5% more, and no copayments.
ОтветитьWhat alot of people dont know if MOST of accidents TURO pays out of there pockets instead of using their insurance. It works out better for them in the long run when its small fender benders or a door ect
ОтветитьI think I can answer that. I had a situation where my car was hit on the front bumper while parked according to the guest. She didn't choose any insurance options but had her own. I unfortunately had the basic plan at the time which made the outcome of the situation very strange. So Turo estimated the damages to be worth around $3800 but my shop only charged me $800 for everything. The insurance sent me only $700 so I was at a lost of $100. Then I was even more confused because my guest said Turo was trying to charge her $3800 I'm not completely sure how that was finalized. Now on another occasion with another car my shop estimated the damages at $1600 but even with the Standard coverage the insurance refused to pay that amount paying out only $700. I found this situation to be a bit amusing because it was mostly just paint damage. Lol
ОтветитьThat's why it's better to get a COMMERCIAL rental POLICY to cover the car. IF YOU IN THE BUSINESS IF RENTAL CARS, YOU HAVE TO HAVE A SECOND INSURANCE TO COVER ANY CLAIMS
ОтветитьCOMMERICAL RENTAL POLICY. HAVE TO PAY TO PLAY
ОтветитьI’m a host in and just had to file my first claim and it’s been a MESS. I would love some advice or insight to see if there is anyway to have the renter pay for the damages instead of me having to pay the $3000 deductible, which turo is saying falls on me (I have turo basic insurance.) Here’s what happened 2 hours before the Range Rover was dropped off to my renter it had new tires and an inspection done (I have my invoice for documentation) After I dropped it off the renter drove it to another state without notifying me, he then caused two front tires to blow out. The tires were not repairable at all. He then has it towed to a tire shop via turo roadside assistance, gets two USED tires put on that cost a total of $140 for BOTH tires. He continued to drive the car and messes up the suspension, axel, and the two right side rims. The total damages are $3,820. The renter is now saying that the damages are the tire shop’s fault for not thoroughly inspecting the vehicle. Keep in mind he choose the tire shop. Any advice would help! Thank you
ОтветитьHi Saimah how are you? I am a host on turo in San Francisco i need an advice from you. One of my renter met with an accident so he went Yosemite National Park and it was a two way road there was a stone lying on road and no other way to avoid that stone since its 2 way road so a stone hit my Oil Chamber underneath the car and Damaged whole things at that time i had Turo Basic Insurance so i had to pay deductible out of pocket maximum $3000 and i paid. So can i get that $3000 back or no? I mean it doesn't make me any sense because he was driving the car so he need to pay deductible right and i know it wasn't renter fault. Any idea. Thank you so much in advance
ОтветитьTuro doesn't have insurance, they have a third party do the work and the third party hires another third party to do the work. It can take 6 months to get anything done.
Turo is straight up a fraud!
Liberty Mutual or Allianz are not even involved with Turo!
Turo should shut down ASAP
this girl is lying about Turo
my Model 3 got in a wreck and I am screwed
The accident happened in September 2020 it is almost 2021, no solution with Turo yet
What about how TURO says Hosts have to have their own personal insurance information in the vehicle at all times? 🤔
ОтветитьDo you have a commercial insurance company you recommend?
ОтветитьA helpful option for protecting your rental business!
