"Anyone who knows Python doesn't need my help" Weeell, I'm an intermediate programmer who knows Python (and JavaScript, C#, some C++...), and I have no idea what I'm doing lol. I figured I'd start with XML modding to get used to doing more than just CC, and then go from there ^_^

this lovely 5 year old video inspired me to finally start working on a mod ive been daydreaming about for a while now. I want to make all official adult careers M-F 9AM - 5PM. Didn't realize it would be as simple as modifying xml.

How do I change the sound of a cc that I create, for example if I modify a crow, how do I replace the sound?

Just a note about the Windows Defender thing. That is not a false flag. The warning appears because the developer did not sign the app with a certificate. Still nothing to be worried about though.

I have a couple of great mod ideas but I don't know a thing about coding in this game. Lol. Like, I would love a mod where you can confess to other people that you're a vampire, and they'll either be okay with it or run away from you screaming.

I don't know if you ever got an answer to this in the last 4 years, but I found a line of code while browsing the XMLs: <T n="buff_type">129126<!--Buff: buff_Suppress_Emotion_Idle--></T>. Maybe it would be more efficient to give all sims a permanent buff_Suppress_Emotion_Idle buff in some high-order file rather than editing the odds of the ide animation?

Maxis needs to hire modders, because i bet a million bucks, the game would run godly. just looking at all those files, I can see modders fixing it to perfection

I also hate these animations and it cancels out all of the tasks I’ve set for them and by the fifth time I’ve asked them to do it (and they decide to stand in place for absolutely no reason) they decide that they want to go do whatever they want to do. I have more “commands not listened to” than “commands listened to” it was over 200 on the not listened too side

Great video, Modding is really anything that works that modifies the current experience. Super stoked that XML is used a lot since I'm accustom to C , XML, some JSON, JAVA, and pound my head into my desk dealing with Python. Lucky me if the core Language is Python for the Sims .. Kept looking at the expansion and stuff and seems like there aint much I like at all. SO I'm off on my journey to learn what the SIMs take to create content probably going to focus on new items and clothes.

I would LOVE if anyone can make a "rites Of Dissolution" Mod For the sims 4 allowing you to steal other wizards/witches magic Theres the crystal But it doesnt have an animation PLEASE MAKE THIS!!

I was so happy to see this because A. of course I was looking for how to mod because I have ideas all the time of things I'd like that no one has a mod for or no one is updating an old mod for and thought maybe it's something I can learn to do. B. Because the idle thing has been driving me nuts, so I was just grinning all the way through this tutorial going OH! that can go away now! Thank you twice over!

Where is the API documentation?

This was immensely helpful. I just started looking into modding when I saw how simple it could be. Who knew just changing a couple numbers in a file could completely alter the game?

I have about 537 things I need to tweak in the game. My biggest gripe is that there is too much busywork. I play at a more meta level. I like to guide the overall course of my sims's life rather than fuss with every minute detail of their day. But the game isn't designed for that style of gameplay. I want to build a winery. But I don't want to have to plant, weed, water, spray, and evolve fifty grape vines every day while also trying to keep mites off the bees, honing my nectar-making skill, raising a family, and maintaining some form of social life. Ranch hands, gardeners, and utilibots are all marginally effective. Little tweaks might help, like making bees cover more area or skipping animations.

I have no modding skills but im wanting to learn. Im really interested in making one that does a voice over for mood changes and needs changes to incorpoate commands for the game player. I have played sims a longtime and now have 2 children with autism and id like to have a voice over to set reminders of what needs they need to met in the game.

I’d rather pay someone to make one for me LMAO I’m not even 30 seconds in the video and just from reading the comments.. I could never 😭

The XML extractor doesn't work for me, i keep getting a "FullBuild package contains no binary tuning" warning, then i get an "unable to decompress compression type0000" error and then it crashes.

I must be dumb, but how did you index the Sims XML...I tried looking with no luck...not sure where to find the XML data

My brain still can't understand how this works its too much information and tasks I think I'll stick to cc im to stupid for this lmfao I will pay anyone to make a mod for me 🤣

I was also unable to get the XML Extractor to work, until I checked the comments on Mod the Sims website where the extractor download is hosted. Check page 5 of the comments. A user other than the original programmer modified the source code and posted a download link for their updated version.

Why does nothing works as advertised? Running XML Extractor for The Sims for over 16 hours now. Nothing. Just the little spinning wheel. No files in my destination folder. Frustrating.

hey! I understand your busy, however can you do a fresher like with the mod your working on now? I want to add a new feature myself, something with jewelry.

I like the animations but when the Sim needs to care his or her baby they should do it right after teleporting them there, they should care about the baby and not be happy singing or somethin... I find this mod helpfull, and its more realistic but on the other side I like to see the thinking bubbles what the sims have on her/his heads, which helps me out to know what they feel and want, not just the wishes and the moodlets but also the thinking bubbles helps to know what they need. So a mod about controlling other NPCs or other sim characters would be really nice, bcs I want to hire a babysitter that lives in the same household and works there, for when my sims are working, and when they come home she could go to her home and not being homeless. Because she's homeless rn and idk what happened to her.

Its also sad that the lifes of the other households go on while I play another Sim carachter that i created, because I wish i could play every household to the end and win every aspirations and goals in the game. I know a bit of xml bcs I learned html and xml and phyton I never saw but maybe its like c# or c++ where my head burns bcs its too complicated for my little brain, so starting off with xml or Sims Studio might be a good start, I already installed the Sims 4 Studio and TSR Workshop but idk how they work, Im a noob at this but I really wish I could do mods and cc (if its legal for EA, idk how it is), so that if its legal I wish I could do that and publish for people to enhance the game and make it feel more realistic.

Is this similar for Sims 2 and Sims 3? How do you learn how to mod for those games?

I get a error when I try using the extractor that says "Warning: The FullBuild Package for SP29 contains no binary tuning." And when I click OK it brings up another SP# and it continues until it asks me to close because of it acting up. What do I do? I matched your settings....?

I'm a programmer with experience in multiple languages yet game modding is something completely foreign to me.... so here I am looking up how to do the most basic things lol

Windows defender is going off because it has detected a file with the sole purpose of modifying other files, that is a huge security risk, albeit non malicious it still fits the criteria for windows defender.
