Zuri Zanzibar Tanzania | Exotic Beach Vacation Review

Zuri Zanzibar was my relaxing exotic beach vacation resort for 3 nights at the beginning of November after five days of East African safari at TAASA Lodge (a departure from my normal homesteading content!).

The twelve acre tropical garden and private spice garden (take the guided tour!) on the equator with 56 bungalows, villas, and suites with outdoor showers and large terraces, most with a view of the private white sand beach in the large lagoon of the deep turquoise Indian Ocean, where you'll see traditional wooden sailing boats and spectacular sunsets opened in 2018. The vibe is elegant, contemporary, locally curated, Afro-Arabesque-Indian-Eurocentric, from the accommodations, design, music, and cuisine. Rebalance and restore physically and emotionally with spa services (the Maasai Celebration massage was wonderful!), outdoor fitness area, water sports, yoga, meditation and Ayurveda workshops.

My good friend Rachel and I booked a full board all inclusive bungalow, which included food and drink. Upendo Restaurant buffet style breakfast featured plenty of fresh fruit, pastries, meats and cheeses, fresh squeezed juices and my favorite, their handmade yogurts in Weck jars, plus live chef stations for breakfast and dinner. The chic African style Maisha Restaurant, my favorite of the two for lunch and dinner, featured Southern European and Indian Ocean fusion cuisine throughout the day and typical Middle Eastern and Omani food for dinner next to the infinity pool overlooking the ocean. The Kendwa beach bar served up fancy beach cocktails and Tanzania's own Stoney Tangawizi, a powerful ginger ale, to accompany the DJ or live music sundowners. Every detail of the bungalow and reception area, the entire resort, was luxurious and inviting!
