Everyone is talking about the price of the equipment used. My shop is full of woodworking tools. I have everything he used. I've been using these for around 4 years, and they have more than paid for themselves by, not only things built for my house, but pieces I've sold. And, full disclosure, I have maybe $2000 in tools. You don't need high priced, top of the line tools to build beautiful furniture.
Ответитьdude that is nice I'd argue its better than the original. great work definitely a new sub
ОтветитьLove it!
Ответитьall you need is 50K worth of power tools
ОтветитьMany DIY videos these days are not for DIY or to help at all. Some, such as this one, are about showing off and getting likes. This video gives me narcissistic vibes.
ОтветитьHow would i diy it? I would need 30K worth of equipment first and 20 years of skill
Ответитьnissan titan. v8 and $500 a month
ОтветитьMay not always be cheaper but you'll always get exactly what you want.
ОтветитьIn response to the videos question. It all comes down to time, complexity, and skill. If you're just getting something from Amazon, it's a piece of mass produced shit, no matter how high the material quality is. Walmart, and most furniture stores are the same way. But, if you have the skills to hand craft a piece of furniture, and the time and dedication to do it at cost. It's far less expensive. But the tool sets for those are not what you think. You'll want a chainsaw, a grinder, hammer, and chisels. And some paint brushes for stain. That's for wood working.
For stone you'll need a few trowels, a float, 2-3 buckets, hammer and chisel, and a mortar board of some kind.
Metal working is where shit gets expensive.
Maga I guess ....
ОтветитьNext step, building a new truck for 110 bucks.
ОтветитьBro that's amazing and seemed like something anyone can tackle with few tools. I appreciate you for the idea and the inspiration. Don't listen to all the negative Nancy's. I'm thankful you shared. Keep.up the great work.
ОтветитьAt least you didn't buy the "made in China/Vietnam/India/Pakistan" furniture at the big box store. Thank you.
ОтветитьAlmost no one has that kind of woodworking equipment. Or tge space for it.
ОтветитьBS. $110 for that lumber? AI is real on this one
ОтветитьDecided to build one instead of buying that Ikea nightstand after watching your video. Now have 9 fingers and an Ikea nightstand.
ОтветитьVery interesting, I am a bit confused on the staining and overpainting. What kind of paint did you use so that the grain would still show through?
ОтветитьYT has fallen so far
ОтветитьThe guy here uses jointers planers more equipment others don’t have but you can use hand planers and more effort to do the same. The issue I have is he uses shitty wood so for me I’d spend more on better hard woods. You would still save a ton but with a better product.
The limiting factor is the skills involved. I have novice skills so I can comfortably handle a simple nothing of a project but if it was a higher difficulty level I’d have to dumb it down quite a bit or suck it up and buy the furniture. You have to pay for the skills involved in producing actual quality furniture but for a big wooden staple looking thing there is no fear any idiot with these tools can get it done or any motivated person with hand tools and the time can do this simple table.
Most people won’t be able to spot the difference with the crappy wood table and the other store bought table so it’s still a win.
Maybe the 5k pricetag was totally overvalued? That would bring down your savings😉
ОтветитьYou never build your own stuff because its cheaper.. you only build your own stuff because its better and to your design. You will never build furniture cheaper than you can buy it.
ОтветитьAs long you and your wife like that ugly table, then I'm glad you're happy. I'm sure the cost of the table includes better material and the labor of the workers. I think most Americans are used to low prices and slowly, but surely, the quality has gone down. The hard truth is we should be paying more than we are for most of the stuff we buy. The fair way to compare the price would be to use the same material as the original maker. And you didn't save money, you just chose not to spend it.
ОтветитьYou are not working class.
ОтветитьFollow up vid in a year after that lumber finishes drying out.
ОтветитьThat equipment is tens of thousands of dollar bucks, yet he's still cutting on the ground 😂
ОтветитьWe all dream with the RH console… but its soooo heavy too…
ОтветитьThe problem is all the space, tools, time, and skill needed to "DIY" furniture like this. If you make above a certain amount, it's literally a waste of your time.
ОтветитьAmericans clearly have way to much free space in their giant empty rooms to out a useless waste of wood table like this in. 😂😂😂
ОтветитьI built the same style table, my wife saw it at some fancy furniture store for like 5k for a 6ft long. I built an 8.5 ft for a fraction, i wish i would have seen this video then. I worked 2x4 and 6x6 but it was a pain to chisel out 8 inches of wood on each side. The result was a very nice solid table but also very heavy. Like i said i wish i would have seen this method then. And to all the people talking about tools. What are you doing watching DIY videos if you dont even own tools. It is definitely cheaper to buy your tools and make you own customized furniture than buying it. I started with some very basic tools and i am not a carpenter by any means, but i love woodworking.
ОтветитьShow us the price tag that said that was 5k$
ОтветитьLooks great 👍. I would do it myself, but im more into auto fab and mechanics. The hardest part of a project is usually convincing yourself you can do it. Just keep trying and you will get it done. Definitely appreciate it when things fall into place on the first try 😅 if you get frustrated just take a break 😁
ОтветитьDude that was not going to cost $5000.
ОтветитьThat's quite a shop for a DIYer.
ОтветитьI'm such a cheapskate. I taught my wife how to be like me over the years, so she would get a stroke if she saw such a price... You gotta do the same 😁
ОтветитьPeople asked you what you were going to do with the money you saved?I tell them if I'm spending any money that's the opposite of saving. I was not going to buy a table for $5000 because that would have cost me $5000. So if I buy material to build a similar table and I spend $750, I haven't saved any money because I've spent $750. Since I had no plans on spending the $5000 to begin with, i still have $750 less money in my bank account, so I haven't saved a penny, but have spent $750.
Saving means the opposite of spending
That is a beautiful piece! It was well worth the time effort and love you put into it! What a great avenue of expression!
ОтветитьLet me make this simple for everyone. Yes it is cheaper but not efficient. The time spent will cost you more money that you could’ve earned to spend on getting the item yourself. Things are usually cheaper to do yourself but that doesn’t mean you get the quality doing it yourself. It’s like with cooking a lot of people can cook but not everyone has the spare time to make large batches of stuff that is better quality than store bought.
ОтветитьExcellent!
ОтветитьListen: I buy used furniture or IKEA and drive a Mazda cx5 for which I pay less than 300 a month.
ОтветитьWhat stain and paint did you use? Did you dilute the paint with water?
ОтветитьTo answer your question. It depends. If you are just looking for some basic furnishings to fill your first apartment.....then it's cheaper to go to Ikea or Costco. You would probably spend more on just materials trying to build it yourself even if you already have the tools. But if you are trying to build heirloom high-quality pieces it's usually cheaper to build. This is especially true if you are doing custom work like kitchen cabinets, built-in shelving, or a custom pantry or closet.
Ответить$200 in material, $30k in equipment, $1k labor.
ya, $5k for a huge ass table... what a steal.
Amazing!
How do you make the template?
I'm pretty sure that he knows how much his equipment costs and besides why does it matter to you or anyone else
ОтветитьI wanted to build the most basic table ever with cheapest plywood available.
I made the calculations, went to IKEA. Bought a laminated table with cable tray, metal adjustable legs and looks good.
It was cheaper than buying the plywood only.
With the crazy hike in wood prices, it is almost always cheaper to buy.
Good work!
ОтветитьHow did you make the template? That would have been GREAT information.
ОтветитьThis dude really said "DIY" as he is using a $2k bandsaw. 😂😂 Blue Collar? 😂😂
ОтветитьThis is great. Just wish I had a planer and sander like your's.
ОтветитьOH HELL YEAH.
Ответить
