The bibs we got at the marathon I did were cool, they had trackers in em so my family that knew my number could follow along with my progress and see my recorded minutes per mile

When you don't take part in a race why go there. Just train on some app. They offer virtual runs that's good enough. And more flexible.

This doesn't really work unless there are multiple checkpoints or the ability to fine these runners. When a runner is pulled over, do you think they really just go home? What's stopping them from walking a bit on the sidewalk and returning to the race? I've read that some people run with previous bibs, which makes it even harder to detect.
