Buy new pieces? Miranda would get all sorts of designers gifting clothes to her wouldn't they? like most celebrities get high end items for free because if THEY are carrying them, everyone else will buy them. everyone else, agree, wear the clothes again PLS, or mix up the different outfits to make them look like different outfits, but you're just mixing up your pieces, like most people would do.

Andy’s boyfriend is the WORST. He resents her good up because it makes him feel insecure. He resents her career and belittles it.

I see everybody trashing Andy's friends, but from their perspective she is just completely changing and not available to them at all. And it is true, that even though I do love fashion, it is a shitty industry with questionable values and a huge waste-problem. No responsibility. So the ending does make sense to me. She is someone who initially cares for union strikes.
Plus, Emily does not need to be a bully, I get it, she wants to be there, but being a workaholic on the brink of a nervous breakdown doesn't make her a saint.
And Andy does turn into a hypocrite, that is what her boyfriend sees. Of course he could be more supportive.

What got me in the film is Andy’s female friend, Lily. She was more than happy to accept the freebies Andi brought from work, but she condemned Andi for a simple, perfunctory kiss given by Christian as routine protocol in the fashion world. This shows a real judgmental attitude and lack of support, I always imagine that when Andi and Nate get back together that they cut Lily out of their lives. She was no friend.

I don’t understand why no one seems to notice that Andy is dramatically more beautiful than any one else. To my eyes she enhances clumsy clothes rather than vv. I’m happy that Nigel picked up on this

Costume design is always going to be recognized by the biggest change from what we are used to. If modern clothing is what we're used to, the audience is going recognize a skirt, a blouse, a pair of heels. Yes, it couture, but so what? Seventeenth century dress is something we can't empathize with. It's fascinating, it's unique, and it's other-worldly. We are impressed by these costumes because we know we would never wear them, but we secretly would love to try.

The only real problem with the fashion industry is the same problem with any industry that caters to the wealthy. That being the millions of people that are paid poverty wages to make clothes that sell for thousands of dollars and are only worn a few times.

I don't get why people like andy. She's whiny and takes her job for granted. She becomes what she despises. She is condescending towards people in fashion industry. She thinks of herself as smart yet what she does often seems otherwise (such as in the scene with her delivering The book for the first time - she's so stupid in that scene + she doesn't even know the name of her potential boss, that being Miranda). She flirts with the eyebrow guy despite having a boyfriend. She has no respect for things that aren't important or valuable to her even though they are to other people. She expects flowers for doing her job which she's payed for. She expresses her distaste of fashion to people for whom fashion is their life. She acts like she's an angel yet she betrayes Emily. She doesn't want to admit to herself that she's willing to do everything for her dream and acts as if everything was out of her control. The only thing I like about her is that she's portrayed by Anne Hathaway.

The movie didn't work as well as it should've because Andy's before look was unbelievable. A recent college graduate looking for her first full time job in NYC would've gotten a hair cut no matter what type of business she worked for. Andy was supposedly the "fat, smart girl" but those descriptions didn't resonate with the audience because Andy was not smart or fat. Even a high school graduate would've known to get her hair trimmed for an office job or kept her hair in a bun or braid. No second assistant to a fashion magazine executive wouldn't returned to work the second day without braiding her hair or putting it in a bun if she couldn't afford a quality hair cut. And if she braided her hair, anyone with common sense would've trimmed a quarter inch off to make it look even. Andy's character is the audience's access to the story. The story didn't work for the audience because the audience is smarter than Andy from the get-go. Audiences don't watch films to see dumb characters. We'll happily watch a character navigate a environment new to the character & new to the audience but the character must have common sense. This isn't a knock against the actress who played Andy. That actress, all the actors, are excellent. The story design is flawed.

The most unforgettable dress tho was Andy's very last one in Paris when she was chasing Miranda, her flowy black cotton-ended stoll, weightless and flowing in Paris, makes it feel like Paris itself. ❤ 18:2- exactly, that gorg dress!! ❤

I didn't like Emily's dress at the charity event! What neckline is that even? Ehh

Brown coat, ladt black suit (but actually those black shoes with side whips) classy, feminine and chic❤

But those outfits still are relevant. Thats the sign of good fashion. Trends come & go, a good style stays. The movie & every thing about it is still very much in style!❤

Yeah she does have trash friends, and the movie kinda tries to convince you that they're in the right, that she's lost integrity and shit. Dude, she was unemployed, and now she's doing well you're trying to guilt trip her about integrity? Integrity doesn't pay bills and all the cool stuff she buys you. The movie does remedy that by the end by making her realize that her "integrity" is journalism, not trying to emulate a dictatorial editor-in-chief of a borderline gossip magazine.

There's a huge misunderstanding about The Devil Wears Prada that I saw time and time again, is that people think Andie quit because she prefered her old personal life and her boyfriend. She didn't. Had she valued that boyfriend, that friend group, and her personal life, she would've quit BEFORE Paris, because that was when they gave her the ultimatum. But she still picked up the phone and still followed Miranda to Paris, which meant she was willing to give up all of those, no problem. Andie quit that job, in the end, because of herself. She had her ethics, and after seeing Miranda throwing Nigel under the bus, she realized Runway was a place where her ethics could be ruined, so she decided to leave. The reconciliation with the boyfriend was just a by-product of her resignation, not the cause.

Devil Mad Prada was based on Anna Wintour; she appears to have a signature style. Her assistants would need to be dressed in designer clothes of different styles, but they aren't buying them. Designers give them clothes, or the magazine allows them to borrow samples. Andy changed her clothes to sweats when she got home. I hated Andy's selfish and jealous friends and boyfriend, and the way she left the job would make her unemployable. She would have ended up a mom and part-time writer, and her friends and boyfriend would have been thrilled

I thought the boyfriend, Nick, was a good character in the sense that Andy spent most of the movie denying that she hasn't changed at all and he points out that she had. He points out to her and tries and fails to support her overwhelming job. Her best friend calls her out on her possible cheating on her bf which is an awesome bestie move imo. I didn't think either of them were awful.
