Here's a fun one. I'm a groundskeeper and I live in a farm. My entire life is one massive workout. I got tennis elbow. I thought it was from my work. Turns out I got tennis elbow from playing video games on my phone in bed. The irony. See, when I was playing video games on my phone I had my hand turned out flat against my phone screen at a right angle to my chest. This "turning out" movement was f**cking up my elbow. So I got on eBay and bought myself a stylus so I could continue playing video games in bed without f**cking up my elbow. 3 weeks later I'm cured. Hilarious.

Thanks for the info. I got it from raking my yard and it's annoying af cuz it limits everything I routinely do such as work out. Or lingers so long it seems I want it to go away!

I'm watching this whilst sitting in the waiting room for an ultrasound scan 99% sure it's tennis elbow as all the syptoms are consistent. Two years to the month i visited the same practitioner for an ultrasound on my achilles tendon which he diagnosed as tendonosis. I was really depressed but i did everything i could to make it better and sure enough it got 80-90% better which i will take. So have patience and try not to get too down because we humans are very good at healing if we listen to our bodies and take a few extra precautions

I'm a heavy equipment excavator operator. I am 42 in 2020 my forearms started to burn. In April 2024 i had both hands operated on for corporal tunnel. The more i rest my hands and arms the more it burns when I do move them. My hands do feel a little better. Not much but my elbows and forearms still burn. I did go like 3 years with the extreme pain and burning up to the shoulder before i got surgery. For 3+ years i have hung my left arm out the window in the winter in Alaska as i drive my truck just to freeze and numb my arm/hands, the left is way worse. The winter shuts my operating time down to 0 hours so for 7+ months other than moving some snow. i havent really used my hands for 3 years. I used to be a mechanic in the winter now i just lay around with what feels like hot glass in my arms. Still numb still tingles still burns. With 5 mins of movement it goes right back to fire. I can't sleep!!! I am starting to think this will never end. The surgeon/doc never gave me physical therapy? I am about to fly down to the lower 48 and start hitting up doctors until some one will actually help me. I am blaming covid i have always been fit and active strong in the hands than 2020 hits i sneeze more in 3 months than i have in 30 years and now my arms burn every day all day. And not just my arms if for example i tap my foot for 5 mins whatever tendon i use will flare up and start burning if i keep using it for 4 hours it now burns for months or years. I am mentally getting worn down going on year 4 of this crap. I'm getting fat because im afraid to workout with any and all tendins feeling like a dry rotted rubberbands. I'm about to start using heroin or crack or meth of fent or mix all of them and chop off the arms. Im irritable, not happy i feel like my doctor just wanted to cut on me for practice not to help me or find my real problem.I just lost in a sea of doctors that wont listen. I dont want opioids i just want the burning to STTTTTTTTTTTOOOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP! my dad is 72 and works with his hands every day>> but me NOOO my hands will burn for a week just from typing this small page of crap>>>> thanks doc great vid P.S dont worry doc i wont chop my arms or do any crazy stuff im just getting so fn mad after being a real man for so long now i sit and watch real men with real hands work around me like im 89 and broken.

I always thought this was normal. It can easily start to hurt by just sweeping. Ive been having it for about 8 years now. I use to work in Agriculture. All started when we had to prep field for the vineyard posts/irrigation . had to shovel out frozen ground. Just went to the gym and it came back again. Working in. Hard Labor jobs didnt help i guess. . i will definetely look into those arm bands and tbis video helped alot of questions i had

Hi, I've been in agony with tennis elbow over 2 and half months, struggling to even lift a cup to my mouth. I have been to the doctors, and he gave me naproxin to take for 2 weeks, put cold compress on, and try a few exercises. He suggested self refer, to NHS physio. Which i did, they replied quickly via email with 2 weeks of exercises to try and complete. Nothing has lessened the pain or improved the movement. So im in the midst of getting back in touch with physio... I'll keep updated... good luck, everyone.

Good Lord the info on the net is crazy varied concerning tennis elbow. But NO ONE has addressed a very basic question. Should I do therapy exercises (tyler twists.squeeze ball,,,etc) when it causes pain. Not discomfort but pain. Like a little above moderate pain. Sharp pain. Why does no one address this?

Hello Dr. O'Donovan. I apparently out of the Blue have developed a night time habit. I've always been a side sleeper but, for the past 2 months I've caught myself in the middle of the night tucking my hands in between my legs??!!!! I don't realize I'm doing that while I'm asleep. I'm a 53 year old woman and never in my life have I ever done this. So it has left me with excruciating pain throughout the whole night and day! I can't grip anything much less lift anything. What would you suggest I do to prevent myself from tucking my hands in between my legs? I've tried Ibuprofen and a cooling gel for pain and it doesn't help at all. I'm at my wits end. I haven't slept in 2 months! Any advise would be greatly appreciated! Thank You for the video.

Hi, after 6 weeks of exercises the pain from tennis epicondylitis has reduced by 50%, but it still hurts a little. In your opinion, can I gradually start playing tennis again or is it better to wait until the pain has completely stopped due to the risk of throwing away everything I've done up to now? Thank you!

Hi as a sufferer of Tennis elbow in both elbows several times over many years I must point out you can get Tennis elbow with just a blow to the elbow and not just by a repetitive strain injury. My first bout was after slipping with a spanner and hitting my funny bone I managed to do this on about 3 separate occasions over the period of a Week which resulted in Tennis elbow.
I suffered in agony with it for months tried all pain relief you mention and finally went to doctor, who gave me a Hydrocortisone injection into joint. This had no affect so I was given another Hydrocortisone injection into joint by Doctor. This did not make any difference. I was referred to a Specialist by my Doctor. The Specialist said “you would not have had an Hydrocortisone injection like he could give into the joint”. You guessed it this had no affect When I returned to tell the Specialist no improvement he offered 2 more options Ultra Sound or an Operation where they remove the tendon from the bone and reattach elsewhere with no guarantee this would work. I chose the first option Ultrasound. Ultrasound made it worse after a few rounds of this I told the Physiotherapist that it was making things worse so they offered Acupuncture which I accepted after the first treatment of Acupuncture I felt relief I had this treatment once a week for six weeks and the pain was completely gone. Now Acupuncture is my first and last point of contact.

Hello doctor My symtons are getting worse over time I drive a bus and the pain is getting worse it has been gradual over many years starting with pain in my outer elbow ie tennis elbow. I am starting to get soreness on the inner part known as golfer elbow. I have weakness in my arms with pain running down into the inside of my palm I am noticing it when I lift things. My mum had this many years ago and had to have a operation . I also am getting burning in my knees soreness in my hips which happens when I lay on my side and some sorness in my shoulders I dont know whats going on. I went to the doctor regarding my knees had x rays was told my knees were fine. Well my knees dont feel fine and often have burning up knees and have to elevate my knees or have a bath or use ice to cool down my knees. Do doctors see the x rays ? or are they just going off some ones opinion at the hospital ?I am just 46 not like im over 60. whats going on? My doctors are refusing to do mri scans. Whats your advise should I ask for second opinions ??? thanks paul

Thank you Dr O'Donovan - I've been experiencing exactly what you describe in my left elbow for about 6 weeks and have been considering seeing my GP. It's a textbook case - not sure how I got it though, I'm not sporty and due to disability quite sedentary. However, your video has eased my mind and I can be patient and put into operation your suggestions.
