The origin of this kind of humor was in the Soviet conservatories. Once a year, around the New Year, the students and faculty would prepare a program making fun of faculty members, current affairs within the conservatory, and pastiches like this one. It was called "kapustnick". "Kapustnick" itself originated among theatrical actors. Actors made fun of everything theatrical. Musicians made fun of everything musical. That's all, folks!
