This desperate loss of innocent lives could have been averted if only the mental health services had done their jobs properly. Brendan’s illness had been highlighted to their services multiple times and he was not taken care of. Brendan needed to be in residential care and medicated under supervision, it is so obvious. The kind people that tried to help Brendan were inadequate to handle his dangerous and complex needs. The cops knew he was a felon and living in the woods and that the villagers were terrified of him, why didn’t the cops bring him in and get him mentally assessed? Isn’t it their job to keep him safe and the community safe from criminals especially those obvious serious delusional mental illness.
