Hoping to capitalize on the popularity of synth pop in the early to mid 80's, soulful singer/songwriter Gino Vannelli turned his creative hands to that form of music with his 1984 recorded 'Black Cars' opus, but outside of his Canadian homeland, neither the single or the album of the same name garnered much attention. I had been a fan since 1979's 'I Just Wanna Stop' and completely fell head over heels with 1981's 'Living Inside Myself' which was a huge hit in America. It remains today one of my all time favourite recordings. I found 'Black Cars' the album and extended remix in one of my beloved second hand stores in 1985 and I loved the title track immediately.
40 years on, 'Black Cars' is definitely of its time, but for me, is an enjoyable piece of synth dance/pop.
