No International Moth or 18foot skiff but a GP14............... weird!
ОтветитьDon't drop the mainsheet
ОтветитьMy dad sailed 505s in Singapore.
I sailed Laser 4000s on the Tay in Scotland.
I doubt my son would be excited to sail GP14s.
I guess it's foilers or bust.
There must be a foiling cherub by now...
Luv and Peace.
505s ONE OF THE FAST YACHTS. DESIGNER. JOHN WESTALL IN 1954.
ОтветитьIn the 60's I was introduced to Ian Proctor and began sailing a Proctor International Canoe . We did not have modern tech for speed , but I do recall passing water skiers ! How fast I really do not know , but it was a perfect balance of handling with the sliding seat and really fast sailing in the 60's and still is SO fast . My other sailing passion is the Thistle , thank you Sandy Douglas , which has always been a fast normal planning sailboat .
ОтветитьGP14 is high performance? That is an interesting story, I have never heard of that. Also boat for 500 pounds would require 10k investment to make it usable. I have two FDs and had quite a few before. Cheap boat means a lot of money to pump in (or effort) and you still have an old boat.
ОтветитьGo Jamie 👍👍👍
Ответить!
ОтветитьMoths are racing at 18-20 upwind these days and 25-30 downwind. No other dinghy comes close. You'll get a second hand Mach 2 that's competitive in a local fleet for less than $10k now.
ОтветитьHow do waszp have equilibrium ? Physically, the foil ? I Dont understand that by now…
ОтветитьThe Laser 4000 is still a beast of a boat for those wanting to go really fast on a shoestring. We bought an old one for £1500 and had many years of crazy fast sailing out of it. They are quite heavy but that gives them a robustness that makes them last.
In strong winds on a 3 sail sail reach they are an amazing experience.
Luv and Peace.
4000 best boat
ОтветитьEveryone are so nice...
Ответить505. 505. 505 !!!
ОтветитьHow much wind will that hike seat catch,I wonder? Could it pitch you forward hard enough to clear the mast? I don't like going face first into a mast so I'm curious.😂
ОтветитьNice video but maybe the titles aspirations are beyond the scope of the 8 minutes used..
ОтветитьMaybe Hannah got confused between a B14 and the GP14! The stands were next to one another at that show...😀
ОтветитьI did smile when the GP14 came up. If we are looking at old pedigree boats why not the Merlin Rocket. Fascinating class, quick, technical to sale and utterly beautiful to look at. I sailed one as a crew for from 8 years old (youngest crew in the fleet by a long way) and for 8 years and they are super entertaining.
ОтветитьWay too many quick cuts
Ответитьis the interviewer in a speech speed contest? how many words per second is her record?
ОтветитьI had a 14 one Design. Max speed was 34 knots in Newport RI. However I did break 3 masts. I had so many friends that said I was nuts too go out in Extreme wind. But it was so much fun. I also had a 49er and a moth. I am retired now. Great video. Makes me want to sail again 👍😃
Ответить505 was one of the nicest boats I sailed. 18 ft skiff used to be considered the fastest thing on the water in Australia until a C-Class catamaran showed them what's what. I was a long time A-Class catamaran sailor, so I'm probably biased. The Contender, designed by Bob Miller (aka Ben Lexcen) was something I always wanted to try. The Musto skiff looks like a more modern, smaller copy.
ОтветитьThe guns on that girl !
ОтветитьLovely to see you covering classes that are not just corporate "one des-broing" boats.
~ smiles ~
The GP 14 is a nice boat - although I wouldn't exactly call it a high performance machine - but, hey! who needs to go fast all the time?
ОтветитьA very confusing video. High performance boats and it has a GP14 in it. No doubt it’s a competitive fleet, but high performance? Might as well chuck in the Laser, Firefly, Nat 12, Merlin etc. Obviously RS were not consulted, maybe because of the monopoly that they have with the RS classes and the RYA didn’t want to be seen as promoting a “brand”. As for the RYA, good idea, poorly carried out. Though tbh anyone looking for a high performance dinghy will already know what’s available out there.
ОтветитьI wonder why she didn't ask for the top speed of a GP14 to the GP14 guy...
ОтветитьThanks RYA I was tempted to upgrade to a GP 14 but I think I will stick to my Tornado.
ОтветитьNice but I will stick with my flying dutchman.
ОтветитьThis is the first time I've ever seen a GP14 described as a high-performance dinghy. A competitive, friendly class yes but doesn't even come close in the 'what is the fastest dinghy' category!
ОтветитьWhat about VX one?
ОтветитьRS400 is much faster than a GP14 and a great boat to sail.
ОтветитьThe next fastest dinghy is going to be the one based on AC75 design concept and electronic foil control. Should be very safe, stable and easy to fly.
Ответитьi 14s in perth :)
ОтветитьIf you’re looking for the fastest non foiling skiff, then International 14’s are the way to go. 😍
ОтветитьRelatively cheap at £11,000....🤣
ОтветитьHow can a mike that big and coloueful be so bad to listen to? Fuzz, pop, amd blare galore!
ОтветитьI would like to see dinghies evaluated for a combination of performance and "ease of use", as follows; Light, but reasonably durable, Sporty performance; Easy to plane and surf. Balanced and comfortable on the wind. Looks after its skipper, - easy to right and clamber back into. Not prone to blowing away from a sailor in strong winds. Most interesting candidate I have seen is the Haydron Dinghy with its interesting buoyancy arrangement, but it has quite a flared hull shape that could make it quite "tippy".
Ответить25k for a new Int14. Wow. And why are you even looking at GP14’s (as good as they are) in a fastest boat item?
Ответитьpropaganda mezclada skiffs una mezcla arbitraria
ОтветитьWhy is the gp here
ОтветитьWhat we are interested now is the most comfortable dinghy to sail. We are losing older sailors when they capsize and can't get back in. Also, sailors with knee replacements have trouble kneeling. We need a design that looks after its skipper.
ОтветитьWhat with 18fit skiff??
ОтветитьOpti obviously
ОтветитьNacra?
ОтветитьI have a Skeeta now and I’ve topped 20kts in my first few sails.
ОтветитьI was in barbados at the gp14 worlds
