Best Diagnostic Scan Tool Under £350? Thinkcar 689BT

I bought one and I must admit it is very good, I had an autel before but paying over £100 per year for updates, using this tool and watching Jimmy using it made it a lot easier to understand what to do, probably saved me and mates £1000 so far, can't recommend it enough !

How does it cope with secure gateway on VAG and others?

Hi Jimmy, is there much difference between this scanner and a Topdon artidiag 800bt?

Not sure if the Thinkcar 689 is the same as the 689BT in functionality but it would be my choice if it were. Reason being that it doesn't need charging as it powers up from the vehicle battery.

Have you used this tool on Nissans with adblue many cheaper tools are a bit sketchy on adblue functions many thanks👍

Hi, I’m talking about ford custom 2015. Can I unblock dpf using compressor, launch uk etc and don’t use any diagnostic tools to reset any fouls because just I don’t have it. If I make any worse?

Hi I don’t suppose you can make any sense of this fault code on my 2017 ducato 2.3 keeps going into limp mode replaced throttle body and pretty much every sensor it has any help greatly appreciated

A friend has a Thinkcar diagnostic tool. I was initially quite impressed by how well it functioned and the level of work it could accomplish for such a low price point, live data bidirectional control, adaptations n' all that jazz. We did run into a slight problem with it though. I'd fitted a new EGR valve for him to one of his old 62 plate Citroen relay vans. After doing so we used his scanner to perform an EGR relearn. It started the process and appeared to complete it without any issue, that was until the ignition was cycled and the vehicle started, then while rechecking for codes one new code appeared (which I don't remember now) which revealed that there was a first learn correlation error that wouldn't clear no matter what we did (including plugging the old EGR back in and trying another relearn). Various other people also later tried to solve the problem using high end diagnostic tools and software but to no avail. The only solution was an ECU flash by the main agent at some expense! I'm not saying Thinkcar are a bad brand but their support was non existent in this case, they just weren't interested which is not very good when it appears that it was their software that caused the problem.

Hi where are you based? I have 2014 Ford truck that I have to get the DPF sorted out. My local garage just reset it every year for the mot but I just need the problem fixed. Engine light comes back on within 10 miles but they can’t work out the problem.

Better have a look at Mucar 892BT - exactly the same device with a bunch of additional software features (e.g. AI based on DeepSeek for error codes).

Considering my original Launch subscription just run out and its £860 a year.. I bought it. And it was £287.. if it only last a year it still a winner 👍🏻

so this is something that you could solve 99% problems with? Or possibly basically any problems. Some cars like BMW have Ista, Volvo has VIDA and so on, but I see little point of getting one of those if you own that specific make of a car other than the included steps, torque settings, parts diagrams or specific ways of removing / installing parts.

I suppose this is all you need if you know what you're doing ;) It's good of them to support the unit for the lifetime of free updates. So relatively cheap but a really good product, defeats the point of buying 1-2k scanners.

Don't know were you got the price from but a reputable seller is selling this unit around the £500 mark .
Which you need if something goes wrong and you need the after sales back up .

Don't buy Thinkscan 689 689Bt or Mucar if you want reset ECU for Hyundai/kia, special functions available in limited brand. Company denied the return request. $450 for only read fault code mainly!!!
