Hololamp || Advanced User Interfaces

The evolution of media technology brought us in an era where videos reign supreme in content development and sharing. This project aims to create a new device that would go one step beyond the simple video reproduction by adding tridimensionality and interactivity.
Hololamp is a smart object which displays holographic projections that can be controlled by gestures. The holograms are obtained by exploiting Pepper's ghost effect, which consists of reflecting the light coming from the screen on a transparent surface in a dimly lit setting. Gestures, such as swiping and pinching, are read by the leap motion sensor and grant interactivity with holograms.
As such, a device's applications are many, and each very different from the other, we decided to start developing socially useful tools to be used in a learning environment. The first is an instrument thought for teachers, the latter is a gesture-controlled story.
The project results are promising, as Hololamp and its content were loved by everyone who tried it. We also think that both contents could be useful in the context of a classroom, both by entertaining the students and giving the teachers new instruments to make the students learn better.
