Just finished one for my sons 11th birthday. I used metal foil tape and distressed it with black paint. Another option for a visor material, is tinted folders you can find at staples, etc. Thanks so much for the tutorial and FREE pattern, amazing! I want to make a Paz Vizsla one as well. I found a foam pattern, any tips on using a pattern for foam for cardboard instead? Thanks so much for all your efforts.
ОтветитьWhat colour is the spray paint and where did you get them?

ОтветитьHow can I make the template for the helmet if I wear glasses?
ОтветитьThank you for making this template! It got me really started in mando armor. Over the course of the last year i've used this to make four helmets. Customized it a bit for each one, so for reference for anyone else i'll list what i did
Twi-lek mando - cut out a large portion of the back of the dome, then cut down the middle of the back wall. used an extra peice of cardboard and velcrow to close it once i get it over the lekku.
Nite-owl style visor - simply changed the shape of the extra peice around the visor. that one's visor was construction paper with slits cut into it, so i didn't need to change the shape of the mismatched visor opening underneath. doing it again i would simply do the same, but cut out the extra curves after glueing the top peice on as a guide.
Yarndalorian - yarndo is plastic canvas and yarn. I used these templates for the base of it, simply tracing and cutting out the template on the plastic grid as accurately as possible without cutting open any of the squares. Whip stiched the seams together rather than glueing, and filled the panels in the same way you would with any other plastic canvass project.
I've made a few other modifications, such as adding horns to loki-lorian, making boxier ear caps for yarndo, a rangefinder for the nite-owl, and a rangefinder for the twi-lek. designed my own earcaps for each rangefinder.
Definitly suggest to any other custom mando builders who want to work with cardboard but not to be din djarin to still use this as a base! if you'd like a fully nite owl style helmet, you can always use the dome, visor with the modifications i listed above, and side walls parts of the template, then all you have to do is figure out the cheek indendations. tricky, but not impossible, i belive in you.
Final notes, if you want to paint rather than use duct tape, be very careful with your hot gluing. it is possible to get clean seams, though on some curves there will be a gap that you'll want to fill in, either very carefully with hot glue, or with something like bondo. Don't forget to seal your work (i use mod podge), be safe with knives, and don't touch hot glue.
This is the way.
Could one use foam clay to cover the helmet instead of duct tape or would that be way more difficult?
I have foam clay and like the idea of the smoother look it would theoretically give, but I’m not very experienced with it.
Thank you so much! You made everything so easy ❤❤❤
ОтветитьSo helpful for my Sabine Wren costume! Now I don’t have to spend $200 on a custom made one. 🙏❤️
