Anurag is generalizing and is frustrated his films haven’t done well recently. All industries face struggles. All kinds of Hindi films have done well, Lapatta Ladies, Jhund, 12th Fail, Unchaai etc with lower controlled budets to big budget successes like Chhaava. Paa was an offbeat film with a big star like Amitabh Bachchan in a role totally against his star image. He got Abhishek to be producer so costs could be controlled and the film was a success.

Don't watch the Hindu videos guys. It is highly leftist baised. Hell bent on destroying everything great about India including bollywood. And unfortunately anurag kashyap has lost his senses recently and saying any non sense about bollywood and has also kind of quit it. So don't listen to him either. Earlier his movies were great, but now u will notice even his movies in recent years specially after 2021 are lacking depth like his thoughts are now. So quit the current anurag kashyap and whatever he says and also the Hindu channel. Only the name is hindu otherwise it's against hindus and india and also kind of bollywood.

I am a Bengali married to a Telegu and this is just my third person perspective and analysis - One major difference between the South and the North is that, South has ALWAYS BEEN ROOTED, never really had to face as much invasion from foreign kings, never HAD TO adapt. It worked well in it's favour - people in the south take a lot of pride in their language, their culture, their actors, food, clothing. For the NORTH, historically, with multiple invasions, they adapted different cultures, languages, customs - it was about survival, North was okay with their regional languages taken away to be replaced by Hindi, to consider themselves as a part of a larger indian identity because historically too, foreign kings with foreign religions often had large parts of North under the same kingdom, South had its own individual kingdoms. It was a matter of just survival, making money, preserving their religion.

Culturally too, I find north indians blending in in terms of clothing, food, language to a global language - a global Indian identity, a person in UP or a punjabi both wouldn't mind if they are called north indians. But Tamilian or a Malayali wants to be called so, not a South indian. They want stories that represent them at a grassroot level, a North Indian prefers a bridge between an Indian and a global identity.

it's just an observation, there's nothing superior or inferior.

To make some sense, you need to leave Hindi filmdom ("Bollywood", mimicking Hollywood with B for Bombay) view. You shouldn't see Indian film industries through Bollywood goggles - projecting the three (Salman, Amir & Shahrukh) Khans. Anurag Kashyap has no roots in the South (Hyderabad-based-Telugu, Chennai-based-Tamil, Bengaluru-based-Kannada & Kochi-based-Malayalam film industries) just as his narrative. How many know that leading Tamil hero Rajnikanth (now quite old & still acting) is popular in Japan?
Chennai based industry making Tamil & Telugu films used to be counter-weight for Bombay & produced many Hindi movies too (Amitabh Bachchan starrer - Andha Kanoon or blind justice, for example, under Gemini banner). Calcutta-based Bengali film industry (leading light was the world-famous director Satyajit Ray) developed on own, but is much smaller. Marathi film industry is based in its home territory, Mumbai, as also Gujarati film industry.
Later, Bengaluru-based Kannada film industry, Kochi-based-Malayalam industry got separated (after "Linguistic states" came into existence on 1st November, 1956). Punjabi language films are always produced in Mumbai. Oriya film industry & Asom film industry (in North East India) evolved as independent units catering to their language groups. "Bhojpuri" another major language (a dialect of Hindi) in North, too evolved, based (again) in Mumbai.
Threat to Bollywood (Mumbai) is seen from the South - Tollywood (Hyderabad), Kolywood (Chennai), Mollywood (Kocchi) & Bengaluru 's Sandalwood.
Bahubali & RRR, though are Telugu (Tollywood-Hyderabad) films, were instantly dubbed in Hindi & Tamil etc; so much so that the un-informed locals feel that that these are their language films primarily. One must see who is the producer(s) who invested the money. Most of Telugu industry has employed, from outside the Telugu speaking artists & almost all heroines (except Anjali: see her Telugu movie "Seetamma vakitlo siri-malle chettu"; SVSC for short, are from North mostly & some from neighbouring South), need "dubbing" with the lady only lip-syncing the dialogue; leaving much work for editing. Dubbing, re-writing the dialogue, songs & music direction is yet another subsidiary-industry. Yet this arrangement brings the movies within reach of remote parts of UP-Bihar, in Hindi heartland, where they prefer films form "South" to Hindi films. Sub-titling in English (in Arabic & even Somali) made them all globally popular. This arrangement downed Bollywood (Mumbai) where, they didn't bother nor made such arrangements (as they felt that they have All-India reach & don't need these appurtenances; also it needs big investment). A Telugu movie released simultaneously, globally (to cater to Telugu people in Silicon valley) brings in much cash in the first week itself.
My personal opinion is, the South was always strong on "story" line that is very weak in Bollywood (somehow fill the 2 hour show-time with disjointed incidences, leaving enough for hero-heroine romance & hero-villain fights). The language is always "Urdu" as lyricists & script-writers wrote in Urdu as most were refugees (refused to go to Pakistan after partition) & found rich employment avenue in Bombay filmdom). Three big heroes Dilip Kumar (a Muslim Pathan), Raj Kapur (a clan that is now going through 4th generation of film actors) & Dev Anand, all Punjabis, dominated the scene & were the "anchor" of Bollywood, in this male-dominated industry. Yet the base of Bollywood is getting eroded. A few Telugu actresses made forays into Bollywood, but returned home promptly, but relegated to bottom of the line (Miss Archana, who is Telugu-speaking, is one such). The No.1 hero in Telugu industry, Mahesh Babu, was suggested to, that he should "act" in Bollywood movies. He said that, they can't afford him!
A new genre - "Reacting" (like yours) to movies, songs & dances emerged, adding a new dimension. It made Allu Arjun, a popular dancer in at least in a dozen leading countries. Watch some of them to get an insight.
