Wrestling is the oldest sport I believe, simple explanation of wrestling is both are trying to take each other down once that happens you attempt to put you’re opponents back flat on the mat to win, could get a win by points witch are earned by takedowns, standing up when an opponent takes you down and near falls(wear the back is pointed to the mat but not all the way on the mat), but Juijitu man purpose is to make you’re opponent tap, also could win by points but idk the rules, at the end of the day, wrestlers train to hit their opponents with the ground and dominate them to get there back on the mat, juijitu is for breaking bones, making them unconscious by strangling, they are both great disciplines and if one is trained well in either one, they are going to be a dangerous human being, but in addition, I think it’s good that grapplers take from other grappling discipline, it makes sense, what this man is trying to get across is that that group of people didn’t not invent those moves, but I’m not sure if they claimed to invent it anyways

2001 Rickson Gracie was offered to fight Kazushi Sakuraba in a heavily-anticipated fight. Rickson was offered 5 million dollars, but he never fought again after the death of his son Rockson in January 2001. (The fight was all but signed, and the one who backed away was Rickson)

The oldest evidences of joint locks in martial arts are from XIX century Japanese jiujitsu drawings.

Rickson refused to fight after the death of his son. Anyone who can imagine the pain of such a loss has the decency to understand why someone would withdraw himself completely. Rickson did not even train Jiu Jitsu for himself at the time. Also the boo hoo hoo nobody remembers Catch is getting tiresome. Gracies did not invent the wheel, but they were the ones who made the early UFCs happen.

The Gracies never claimed to have invented anything, all they did was perfect and adapt the techniques already preexisting from other disciplines such as wrestling, judo and sambo in a way that the weaker practitioner could apply them against the stronger opponent.

What form of catch wrestling is he saying? I cannot make out the full name of catch wrestling he mentions. It's not just "catch wrestling." Thanks

The only move BJJ ever invented was scooting your butt across the floor to get to your opponent.

This video is dumb. I looked into Robinson's ludicrous claims and Henry VIII wasn't going around slapping triangles on anyone. There is ZERO evidence of any submission-oriented wrestling in England before the 1800s. Before that, wrestling there was about throwing, tripping, and pinning. To refer to Henry the VIII as a "catch-as-catch-can wrestler" is pure verbal diarrhea.

Nobody that isn't named Billy Robinson or Jake Shannon thinks catch wrestlers invented the double-wristlock and the triangle or that BJJ got these moves from Catch. The double-wristlock probably pre-dates language. It's probably been in circulation since Neanderthals realized they had shoulders and that they don't bend that way. And the triangle (sankaku-jime) is absolutely credited to Judo, which passed it on to Jiu-Jitsu. There is NO EVIDENCE of guys in doublets and cod pieces choking each other out with triangles.
