Good review Dave! There is actually a third group of Gnostics called The Bogomils. Few people in the modern world have heard of the Bogomils, who existed
during a seven-century time span in and around Bulgaria. Although almost
forgotten, they represent an important movement that should be studied
by anyone interested in Gnosticism, spiritual freedom, the Cathars of
France (who succeeded them), and the history of religions.

You mentioned that maybe the archons are systems unto themselves that may uphold certain universal principles, laws, or govern parts of reality. I can't remember where i read it years and years ago that the elohim are considered faces of god, but also their own entities that are omnipresent ( as their own reality), beings that pervades all things in existence below the 10th and lower dimensions. I have always thought about the vision by the prophet Ezekiel, where he described the angels as in a consciousness that moves in directions within the bounds of a wheel within a wheel. I have always had this theory because i have always been huge on the kybalion. My theory is that they are the aforementioned ever pervading beings in a reality that overlaps ours and filters down into our reality, and the ones considered the cherabims in Ezekiels vision were cycles of evolution and time that gives birth to new evolutionary states of being and consciousness as well as experiences. Just like in life. We have cycles in everything, seasons, lunar phases, life and death, the rise and fall of civilizations, the birth and death of stars, eventually our whole reality will collapse and become one with prime source again ( as above, so below). I can't help but think of the angels (or archons) as sentient law holders that emanate only themselves, form, mass and gravity and time cycles ect.
