How Significant Is 100,000 Deportations?

Making good on campaign promises, the Trump administration recently announced that since January 20, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials have made 113,000 arrests and carried out 100,000 deportations (while simultaneously reducing the number of illegal border crossers to record lows).

Given there are 18.6 million illegal aliens residing in the United States — thus representing a staggering amount of work remaining for ICE — it begs the question of how significant the removals-to-date really are.

The answer is very significant and no slide rule is necessary to see it’s true, especially in terms of how it’s already reducing taxpayer burdens.

For a comparative perspective, consider costs in the Show Me state. Missouri has an illegal alien population almost exactly equivalent to ICE’s reported deportation numbers. 104,000 illegal aliens (including their U.S.-born children) live there, costing state taxpayers $462.4 million annually (an amount that would more than cover a shortfall for K-12 that the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education desperately needs).

Of course ICE didn’t remove 100,000 illegal aliens just from Missouri so the $462.4 million savings is only a theoretical base. In fact, $462.4 million is probably much less than what taxpayers really will save annually as a result of ICE’s recent enforcement actions. Why? Many of the arrests and removals occurred in New York, Chicago, and Boston – Blue State sanctuary jurisdictions where far more benefits are offered to illegal aliens and where the cost of providing services and housing is sky-high.

Moreover, it must be noted that without removal, these 100,000 illegal aliens would have remained in the country, thus imposing compounding costs for taxpayers year after year. Using the modest Missouri figure of “just” $462.4 million a year, if 100,000 illegal aliens remained that state for another five years, the cumulative taxpayer burden would be $2.3 billion.

Just move the games to Mexico. They have all the stadiums needed and they're modern as far as quality goes. Just look up Estadio BBVA, Estadio Akron, Estadio Nemesio Díez, and Estadio Cuauhtémoc. No tourist wants to deal with this ICE nonsense.
