is this setup good enough to stream uhd mkv video files to the tv? each uhd file is roughly 40gb. assuming just using this setup for 1 tv, no other users/client.

Thanks! I’ve been considering migrating my Plex Server off my gaming PC for a while to save on power consumption. I’ll probably pick up a Pi4 soon and give it a try. The only thing I’m unsure about is if my 8TB external HDD will be able to be read by both Windows and Ubuntu, due to the drive being NTFS. Ideally I’d like to be able to plug it into Windows while I’m doing my ripping and encoding and then plug it back into the Pi the rest of the time.

Well, I'm new to this. I managed to get retropie up and running with arcade roms. But tried this everything went fine until I got to app store to try and download the Plex app and just comes up with empty white page. So now I'm at a stand still. I tried Osmc but that won't download at all corrupt message. Any help 4 years late😢

Is there something you'd recommend that can handle two to three 4K streams at once? I've seen some people say they have trouble with the raspberry pi with even a single 4K stream.

2 years later, do you still recommend the Pi4 for a Plex server or do you know of something better? I currently use Plex on my gaming rig mainly as a music server and am looking to have a more dedicated and smaller setup.

I have a question here: After I have set up the plex server can I just remove the monitor, keyboard and mouse and just leave raspberry connected to wifi and the pendrive attached to it? Will it still work?

In 2022 Plex has changed and it is no longer relevant regarding Plex, new process. Much more confusing and not intuitive at all.

I've never really understood the point of doing this. It's cool and all but presumably you could just stream from your PC, yeah?

Tried following this with my already-installed Raspberry Pi OS installation. I can see why he used Ubuntu, RPiOS has weirdness with USB Drives and getting access inside Plex. It is fixable but complex.

Think this could handle blueray rips? My Plex server is on my gaming PC, and I want to migrate it to a separate device, that can act as a seedbox, Plex, nas, & pihole. I feel like the p4 might be underpowered for all of that.

Can you access this on a LAN without access to the internet?

It did not work for me. I followed everything step by step in the video. I tried several times. There must be a few more steps that were not shown. I never got to the screen to set up my server or the how plex works screen. Plex kept taking me to a screen to download software even after I installed it from the Ubuntu page.

Why the micro HDMI? Can I just do regular HDMI to HDMI? I'm currently doing that to stream steam games and it's working fine.

That's pretty cool wish I had a reason to actually use it tho, I mean if I traveled or watched movies not on Netflix. The retropie is more use kinda sad I don't have more uses for my 3 raspberry pi's except just using if to learn stuff like this.

With the absolute dogshit infesting streaming services (and in the UK many people are coerced into a TV license) I thought about this a few times. I'm seriously considering it even more now especially since I can sail the high seas in search of treasure, in Assassins Creed Black Flag of course. With everything included it's probably less than half a year's worth of Netflix, UK BBC TV License (what a joke), and Amazon Prime.

Do we need to fwd ports or anything to set it up ?
