Excellent quality. Great post (even if we did look horrible). Thank you!
ОтветитьRemember the day ...unplayable ..off to school on the monday to give the man u fans loads..
ОтветитьSome terrible Stepney goalkeeping.
ОтветитьRobertson should have been sent of for deliberate handball and denying of a certain goalscoring opportunity.
Ответитьstepney wasnt on form bring back the "relaible" man u reserve keeper at the time Paddy Roche mmmm
ОтветитьCool West Brom video. I support Aberdeen FC. Diolch.
We should have a British and Irish Cup between English Premier, Scottish Premier and a selection of sides from Ireland, Ulster and Wales.
"Save of the Season" at 2.12, lol.
Ответитьgreat save from Robertson.....
ОтветитьQuite a team Bomber, Ali brown ,Giles, Cantello , Willie and Ozzy ! Would be winning the League now
Ответитьthere in the brummy with mi dad...
ОтветитьI can't imagine winning Manchester 4 -0
Ответитьmassive man u support, that end could hold at least 20k.
ОтветитьAfter today's 0-0 bore draw at Old Trafford it is nice to remind myself of this match (I was sitting in the Halfords Lane, aged 15, with my dad. And of course we won 4-0 the next year. And the fantastic 4th round match winning 3-2 in extra time in the replay. And a double the next season with the brilliant 5-3 at OT. And the following two home matches. But that was then.....
ОтветитьPoor Penalty kick
ОтветитьI remember going to this when I was about 13, think it was the first game of the season after promotion.
ОтветитьStepney very poor in this game.
ОтветитьI was at the game. Albion had just got promotion the season before, and Johnny Giles had brought in a few new players, non of whom were big stars, but they were a TEAM, and in Willie Johnston they had a proper winger! Tony Brown and Ally Brown were superb with the goals that season, and in Robertson and Wile had a very strong centre back pairing. Ron Atkinson took this team to even greater heights, coming third in what is now the Premier league and I think the quarter final of the UEFA Cup.
Ответитьi was there think man u bourt 20.000 but we were on fire wille on the wing could watch im all day
ОтветитьAttendance - 36,615.
Meanwhile we struggle to fill a 26k stadium 🤣
I was there !
ОтветитьThat was a serious team - and that crowd! Think we won 5-3 at Old Trafford a year or two later!! Boing-boing!! 💙
ОтветитьI remember this game so vividly. Only a few weeks before we beat city at Maine Road, knocked Ajax out of the UEFA Cup then went top of the league with a win at Leeds before an international break. After this result we hardly won a game until Christmas when we finally found some form again before winning the cup
ОтветитьI remember watching that game when I was a lad the Albion were a good side always finished in the top five... Johnny Giles simply brilliant
ОтветитьGiles very much the conductor of this WBA orchestra...
ОтветитьMY DAD WAS ALWAYS SINGING GILES NAME IN THE MID 70S I WAS TOO YOUNG TO KNOW WHAT HE WAS ON ABOUT. WHEN GILES CAME BACK IN 1984 HAS MANAGER I BUNKED OFF SCHOOL TO LISTEN TO THE RADIO TO HEAR CONFIRMATION. HIS RETURN WAS A FAILURE BUT THAT MID 70S TEAM HE PLAYED IN HE MADE THEM TICK ,HE WAS CLASS.
ОтветитьAt least six full international players in that West Brom team.....
ОтветитьUnited started well that season and were top of the league in early October. Then Buchan got injured and they couldn't function without him. He came back in mid-December and, of the 21 league and cup matches between Christmas and mid-April, United W 16 D 3 L 2. By then they were in the FA Cup semis and they threw three or four of the remaining league matches before winning at Wembley.
ОтветитьThose were the days.
ОтветитьI was at that game remember Johnny Giles goal in my memories
ОтветитьGreat football from Albion
ОтветитьI think its fair to say that Alex Stepney had a bit of "a mare" in the United goal that day. I don't think he stood much chance with Albion's first goal, but I think he should have done better with their other three, particularly the last goal, when he appeared beaten before the ball had even entered the net.
ОтветитьA Villa fan, but at that game with my Baggie supporting older brother. Incidentally on my first weekend leave from the Royal Navy aged 16.
Ответитьon the way to the USA in royal navy aged 17 loved hi John Quiz ball Osborne. legendary keeper and ornithologist. rip baggie legends and thank you . rip Motty in 2023 now 65 with king Carlos. boing boing.great post . thanks .
Ответитьgot teary when I saw John Osborne save the penalty, I loved him; he had issues with his joints in his hands. great albion keeper. and clever also " Quizball" was often won by west brom .
ОтветитьRemember this so well, Tommy Docherty leading up to the game was saying that the First Division (then) was no place for a Player/Manager. Giles answered him the only way he knows with a screamer of a first goal. Giles couldn't afford star players, but very few could put a TEAM together like him, and bring the best out of average players. He was one of the Greats.
ОтветитьThat Giles side was really ahead of its time.
The Irish core assembled for a pittance Mulligan,Martin Treacy, Giles, and a chap called Mayo, who was actually English 😂.
Notice Giles playing it out from within his own box ?
They were a great side, went a bit more direct after Giles left and were the perfect blend for a few seasons.
Great memories from my youth, loved those ALBION players,
ОтветитьGreat memories
ОтветитьI remember that game simply because I was on holiday in Malta with my Mom and Dad and Nan and Grandad,no internet or sky you were lucky if you could get bbc world service, the papers were always a day late except on Sunday I remember going to the supermarket to get the paper and had to look twice at the score then running up the road screaming at the top of my voice to my grandad who was sitting on the balcony we’d won 4:0 happy days
Ответитьi wuz there!! it only seemed like yesterday
ОтветитьLooks like united had a statue in goal 😂
ОтветитьBack then we always beat man utd the albion team was unbelievable
ОтветитьAlly Brown never seemed to get the full recognition he deserved. He scored so many crucial goals for Albion. And that sublime lay-off for Cyrille's goal at Old Trafford is unforgettable.
ОтветитьBest ever Albion kit.
ОтветитьWas at this match with my mom and dad. Our first season back in the first division
ОтветитьUnited's 'keeper didn't have the best of days.
ОтветитьGuess I'm not the first one coming here after the 5-3 a year or so later...
ОтветитьSuch a shame that Giles fell out with the directors. He was on the verge of winning trophies with that team. Regis and Cunningham joined Albion when Giles was still manager. He could have done great things with the Albion.
ОтветитьWhen football was football. The game now ruined by sky and too many foreign players.
ОтветитьI watched this match.Johny Giles created a great side in his time has Player/Manager. There was never a dull moment. The good old days I say. 😊❤
