ОтветитьThank you
ОтветитьI'm so glad to have found Prof Mark Solms and his knowledge of the brain and how it works it has confirmed what i was only imagining should be the case , it's like finally putting a face to the name of consciousness .
ОтветитьI see in the background on your bookcase a collection of books by Ayn Rand! Hooray!
ОтветитьThis gentleman is smarter than other gentleman in the field.
Ответитьvery interesting
ОтветитьThank you for conducting this wonderful interview.
ОтветитьThe work that Mark Solms is doing is groundbreaking. Such an excellent guest to have on the show
ОтветитьI've been following Prof. Solms' speeches. And this is absolutely one of the best. Questions asked are very to the points, inviting his concise answeres, answers that are interesting while informative. Excellent.
ОтветитьIf feelings are fundamental, then all life forms, including for sure insects, that eat and run away must be conscious.
ОтветитьI think Mark maybe wrong about single cell reflexes and choice as the starting point of conciseness.
ОтветитьI'm working on a theory of dreams
That makes me think they are not what they seem
Strange yet familiar
But they feel so real
Where do they come from
Where do they go
Some are like old friends
Some like familiar foe
Some a bit of both
Some shock
Some shame
Some are just insane
Where do they come from
Where do they go
Many are those who claim to know
It's God speaking some say
He's pointing the way
No, no, comes the counter claim
Dreams come from worries, fears and uncried tears
Perhaps
Perhaps not
Maybe those who mine the brain will strike it rich
With a new reality show
Who wouldn't watch another's dreams
With commercials and a proper viewer caution of course
Okay, Okay
Let's get real
The very thing I tell myself when dreams disturb my rest
With past tears
Future fears
Or longings unfulfilled
Where do they come from
Where do they go
My theory is that dreams
Are nightly thought streams
Flowing without our knowing
Leaving only silhouette shadows
Cast by the dawning light
Well, what can I say! Brilliant moderation, brilliant performance by both interview partners. I have enjoyed this podcast tremendously. ...and I have learned so much! I love teaching (and learning) and Mark is a fantastic teacher, understanding the secret of making complicated subject simple. Well done both of you! (PS I hope Ann Rynd is only in the bookshelf as part of the learning process)
ОтветитьGreat insight! Thank you!
ОтветитьSuperb job! Superb job, Madame Interviewer. WHY? Because you stayed out of your guest's way. And when you did speak up, it was concise and to the point. Less you. More Mark=Much, MUCH more appreciation of you by listeners!
ОтветитьEvolutionarily, as well.
ОтветитьA superior podcast! The interviewer understood the material and was well prepared, a rarity in the vast majority of interviews. She knew the correct questions to ask.
Ответитьvery clarifying, thank you !
ОтветитьOnly ignorant individuals think that human emotions are the source of consciousness because such emotions are merely subjective interpretations of the same thing
Ex: Different people have different feelings about the same story, or policy of a new government. Some may like it, some others dislike it, while many other people are simply inddifferent to it. The reason why people have different interpretations of it is that their different emotions or emotional reasoning determines how they interpret the same thing so differently
Consciousness is awareness of the existence of the external world or the surrounding environment. It comes from interactions among different forms of matter. But it exists in only some forms of matter, which were created to have active and immediate responses or reactions to changes of other different forms of matter in the surrounding environment. Human beings, other animals and the vegetation on this planet are examples of such forms of matter,
Other forms of matter which do not have any sort of consciousness or awareness of the surroundings were not created to have any active and immediate responses or reactions to external influences. Some typical examples are rock, sand, earth, water, metal, wood, human -created objects, such as TV, fridge, computer, motorised vehicle, train, airplane, and so forth. Such forms of matter exist passively, and are always influenced by other forms of matter
If you are getting nearer and nearer a deer, it will become aware of your appearance, and runs away because it has consciousness of your existence, or it is aware of another form of being approaching it, and interprets a human as a threat to its survival. The reason why it fears human species comes from the fact that humans have killed many of them, and human killing behavior towards them have been recorded in their memories. Such consciousness or awareness can comes from only interactions among different forms of matter in the surrounding environment. That's is merely an example of experiencing interactions between 2 different forms of matter for you guys to understand that consciousness is accumulated experience in interactions among different forms of matter
Without any interaction with any other form of matter through the 5 senses or the peripheral nervous system, human beings would never ever have got any central nervous system, including the brain for you guys to interpret what you guys see, what you guys hear, what you guys taste, what you guys touch, and what you guys feel about to have any sort of awareness or consciousness of the observed in the surrounding environment
If you are getting nearer and nearer or approaching such objects as a table in your house, a flower-pot, your computer, they will obviously have no response to your appearance because such forms of matter do not have any consciousness or awareness of any influence in the surroundings. But if you are approaching a dog or a cat, they will obviously have some sort of response or reaction to your appearance because such forms of matter have awareness or consciousness, and it depends on how human species have treated theirs how they will respond to human existence. It means that their consciousness of the existence of human beings is their accumulated experience in interactions with human species
What have made all of you guys so fundamentally misunderstand and mistake human emotions for consciousness are human ignorance of the structure and mechanism of the universe, which have created all forms of matter in the universe, and human wild imagination
It requires profound knowledge of both natural sciencs, including all branches of physics, chemistry, mathematics, especially astronomy, biology, computer science, as well as such social sciences as sociology for you to understand objectively or correctly such concepts and notions created by human extremely limited knowledge
Roni, congrats to you for starting the Bigger Picture Podcast! I wish you much success, being female gives you an edge. 🤩 We women must band together to reveal our innate powers.
Google's algorithms bring me videos of Mark Solms ever since I listened to his description of solving the hard question. "How and why consciousness arises." I understand the mechanism and have used it many years (without knowing how.) I bring repressed memories from my unconscious memories into conscious memory. Something clicks and an emotional conflict gets resolved, freeing me from sadness - or whatever emotion has been repressed because of the emotional pain caused by abandonment, for example. I've been analyzing my dreams decades; dreams are utilized with childhood memories and psychoanalysis to lead us to self understanding. And with newer understanding of attachment theory, and other research since early 1900s (🤣) psychoanalysis has evolved 100% from Freud's hypotheses! If folks only knew about the relevance of personal unconsciousness - their lives would be vastly happier.
I look forward to newer videos from The Bigger Picture Podcast - now subscribed.
SSRIs are useful only as long as folks are mostly unconscious. I used Wellbutrin many years to allow me to focus on my work, allowing me to earn a living. Then, I stopped lying to myself about my significant other. When I admitted to myself that neither of us were able to truly communicate, I wanted out. Then I became depressed - Wellbutrin did not help me. I was forced to confront myself! This drove me to another psychoanalysis; this time I had to design an analysis that worked for me - not one that met the ridiculous protocols of the various schools of thought for National and International Psychoanalytical Societies and Associations!
ОтветитьThank you very much Mark.
ОтветитьWhere do feelings reside in our bodies
ОтветитьHow do we interact with our feelings in our bodies
Ответитьno one can know for a fact, that emotions are the source of consciousness. thats utterly retarded to claim. there is zero evidence collection even possible. source of human consciousness? thats like asking the origin of the universe.
emotions are clearly flawed. they are usually detrimental to one's wellbeing. nothing is more overrated than emotions. a life without emotions would be a life without far more problems. swear to god, in order to be relevant, every soft scientist has to come up with something new, even if there is nothing new. theyll just invent a word and claim eureka! im a genius!
sweetie, you need to learn the Socratic Method of Investigation, and how to wield it, and how to not care if pursuing the factual evidence that another uses to conclude unfounded claims, offends them. you cant do this job, unless you act like you challenge bullshit, no matter who it comes from or when. youre a woman. you wont do it. watch and learn from yourself. you wont.
