I'd say yes. If you can spot and hit the 4 carriers before their planes launch, you win, plus save some for Yamato, the rest should be easy.
But if the Japs get your cruiser first, it's probably game over.

Maybe someone didn't mention this, clearly a ship like this today, could scramble/jam the Japanese communication systems. They couldn't report anything back to the Carrier group.

I had a buddy on the Eldridge, and he said our cruiser was doing much better IRL until it was hit with a torpedo.

if v modern warships gets hit its gona lose its ofensive capability quickly, n become unseaworthy quickly, ww2 ships can take a hammering, not so modern warships. vey got no armour, ver elecs n electronics r fragile, without ver radars, directors, misiles ver fairly weak, ver mostly alloy n plastic, ie melts n burns easily. in a suprise attack / nite attack or out of range situation it wold do well. also it b vulnerable 2 subs as no efective sonar coverage n no escort, supply n repair ships. fear b a problm as inexpereinced crew n alone. ijn expereincd, battle hardened, in a flotila would operate efeiceiently. intresting proposition.

Ticonderoga class have Aegis systems and SPY radar, so she could engage the Japanese from OTH and not have to get that close.

Modern weapons and radars need satelites and in WWII there are no satelites so modern rockets and radars do not hit anything without satellite guidance, yes that choper will destroy many ships but also that choper will be shoot down easy with anti air weapon.

The anime "Zipang" actually has this scenario but it was a modern day Japanese Aegis cruiser vs American Dauntless and Avenger planes. Needless to say the torpedo bombers were just sitting ducks against the automated deck gun of the cruiser and the dive bombers were cleared out of the sky by the AA systems of the Cruiser.

No way in a fire control room of a ship would they keep firing missiles at an already burning destroyer. They would target other ships. Harpoons use GPS and can be updated IN FLIGHT.

Biggest issue would be is how much ammo could b on board the modern cruiser. If they have enough missles they would never encounter enemy ships

Following the first rule of the internet: If a title asks a question that can be answered with no - then there is your answer and watching the video is the long way to get there.

If the cruiser waited until the helos identified the carriers they could have been taken out first as a priority target being the greatest threat. Then it would have been an easy victory.

I'd be curious to see the Tico take out the aircraft and then send the Helos in against the surface targets.

The ship was lost, but the Japanese would not have been able to attack Midway. Also had the ship been under human control , once the missiles were fired, they could have turned away and the planes may not have found them. Maybe try this battle again with upgrades or even add the Iowa?

I like these "The Final Countdown" videos that show a lone modern American craft vs either the Pearl Harbor or Midway attacks. FINALLY I get to see modern weapons just go to town on the IJN.

2 things. CIWS armed with friendly around is crazy. you can take evasive maneuver to avoid bombs. only takes a couple degrees
