I often refer to the LONG cloth of San Antonio metal, but rarely discuss the early origins from where it initially spawned within our city. Back in the early days before the internet (& social media) I would track our viewership through a variety of different databases; & it was evidently clear that the majority of metalheads, not only tuning in, (but attending shows, buying swag, tape trading & listening to records) were from the South & West sides of our city. Thus, its been a LONG, well known fact that fans (AND the musicians birthed) from these areas hold in high prestige the art of metal, but ALSO maintain a deep LOYALTY & commitment to the genre. SO, when I meet bands that stem from that heritage, I KNOW their heart is TRUE & their music even MORE legitimate. One such band whose members fall within this guise are EXTREME melodic, tech death metal afficionados, Nevallum! I first came to know the band when I saw them perform at the 2021 'Local Disturbance' show (put on by JC Productions). I was immediately taken aback, not only by the band's live intensity (led by vocalist, Jerry Sachsenmeyer), but by the complexity & dexterity of their music. It was both refreshing to see yet debilitating to witness. I loved it; & after listening to tracks like, 'Witch of the Black Forest', 'The Vanquisher' & 'Goddess of the Necrosea' I knew the time would eventually come when they would sit across from me. With the release of their LATEST single, 'Planetary Annihilation' earlier this month that time has FINALLY arrived. SO, on October 18th, 2024 the band accepted my invitation to visit the RMW Studio to chat about it ALL. In the interview below you will see us discuss the following: the early formation of the band, their metal heritage, lyrical themes, the PA single (& working with Bryan Eckermann), live shows, upcoming music & a COOL Yngwie Malmsteen story! To the extended RMW Familia (outside of Texas) - be SURE to go CHECK these guys out & get their music! To the band - THANK YOU for giving OUR time together the LOVE & REPSECT! I can't wait till we do it AGAIN! ~ El Mero Metal #nevallum #robbsmetalworks #planetaryannihilation #supportSAmetal
