You have answered my questions thanks a lot, only want to know how to fix a down break hub
ОтветитьHow can you remove up or down bumps
ОтветитьIm building a 40 spoke rim, drive side
I've put in a spoke on the hole on the left of the valve. Let's call this spoke L1
I've put in a spoke on every 5th hole, counting from L1 going left
I've put in spokes using the over, over, under method
I've ended up with a rim with a drive side that has a spoke on every other hole, however there are 2 areas where I have 2 empty holes
Help me, what am I doing wrong
Top Class. 😊😊😊
Ответитьwhere tightening was
ОтветитьLovely video! Enjoy the process!
ОтветитьJim, I was taught to build wheels over 40 years ago at a shop that did a lot of bike work for professional road and touring athletes. I set the spokes differently. Have you ever heard the term “pusher” and “puller” spokes? All my head-in spokes are set by rotating the hub forward. They are “puller spokes.” Then I set all the head-out spokes the other direction; they are the “pusher spokes.” I’ve built hundreds of wheel sets this way and never had any issues.
Just wondering what your thoughts are about this process vs. the alternating spoke arrangement you utilize?
I want to thank you for the excellent video and the way you explain yourself very very good there was one or two things on their I really needed to know and thank you very much for your help you've been great I mean that thank you again and I will continue to watch your videos thank you
ОтветитьNice one, I'd always considered wheel building a dark art and an exercise in frustration, but this is really well explained in a step by step process, and gives me the confidence to give it go. Top man.
ОтветитьYT keeps deleting my comment. Thank you for helping build my gary fisher trek wheel first try. Great for my ebike to have the new XM 490 pro hub. I got frustrated a few times as I was doing 32 spokes but I rewound it and that helped me a lot. I had to step away for a day or two when I got mad but it worked out. Thank you so much!
Ответитьthank you. help me truing wheel a lot!
Ответитьdo you have a video of you putting spokes in a non alternating holes
ОтветитьHi, Would it be a good idea to use threadlocker instead of motor grade oil for installing the nipples on the spokes? Thank you!
ОтветитьBeavis & butthead would love this video Remember & oil those nipple's & spokes 😂😂😂 good video though 😊
ОтветитьYes, I did. I stayed till the end of the video and enjoyed it. I know, and I'm sure I will watch it again. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge.
ОтветитьI couldn't adjust the wheel spokes. Is there an easy way to do that?
Ответитьthank you
ОтветитьHi bro do you have a video on to build a bike wheel spokes with 24 holes in the Wilhelm and 32 holes in the wheel rim
Ответитьhey friend. awesome tutorial. do you offer in-person tutorials for a fee?
ОтветитьSo I have build many wheels in this way. I almost always have to dish the wheel to one side even if I tension the spokes with same tension. When I dished the wheel, the rim often leans down on one side. Do you know why?
ОтветитьHow do you size the spokes regarding to the hub diameter ?
ОтветитьI had wheels similar to yours. Dissimilar metals rusted those inserts out. Made no sense to me why that would be done.
ОтветитьIs he using the term "buckled wheel" as an equivalent to what u.s. repairmen call "hop"?
ОтветитьAmazing! You make it look so easy.
I have a couple of wheels I'm about to work on and your video has made it so clear what is involved, inspired my friend, very much appreciated. All the very best!
Thank you, you taught me something useful that can't be done by a shop in the small town I live in, now I don't have to deal with a bike shop in the city. you've given me the gift of self reliance.
ОтветитьWhat spoke pattern is this?
ОтветитьI'm about to build my first wheel and I truly enjoyed this video.
ОтветитьThis was recommended to me by the YT algorithm just now, and it might very well be saving me a couple hundred of euros down the line. I plan on building a wheel that is both, rim and disc brake compatible, since my current wheels need replacing but I can't justify buying a rim brake wheel set to later have to buy yet another wheelset for when I convert my bike to disc brake.
I found a wide 29" rim brake compatible rim, that is wide enough for most tires, so if I choose a disc compatible hub that can be converted from QR to thru axle, I'll have a wheelset that I can use on whatever bike I end up getting after.
Prebuilt wheels with those rims would cost me about 600-900$ + import to EU, the rims are only 80$ a piece tho..
So thank you in advance, building the wheels myself might end up saving me half of that amount
That makes it so much easier to understand! Other methods rotate the hub clockwise and not anticlockwise as shown here and also have the first set of spokes laced the other side of the drive side flange, can I ask is this just choice?
ОтветитьThank you so much for the video, im going to try and tackle my relaced wheel and see how it turns out. The only thing im not sure about is when you are setting the nipples initially and you said have about 2mm exposed what is it that you are exposing?
ОтветитьHow do I find out what size spoke I need for a 26 " huffy model 56899
ОтветитьI don't know about a wheel building full but I got my wheel built. Thank you much for this video. Lifesaver
ОтветитьFirst of all thanks for the video! But I cant wrap my head around one thing, in the video (When you explain the position of the first spoke of the third set) it seems like the spoke is going into the incorrect hole. It looks like it is meant for the spoke head going on the other side, there is no small depression for the spoke head. Maybe I am wrong or it is not really important.
ОтветитьThanks
ОтветитьI am thoroughly inspired to build my own now. After paying substantial amounts to my local bike shop you’ve given me the confidence to try this out. Thank you !
ОтветитьThank you for the video! And I have a question. I saw a tool that measured tension in the spokes. Is there any recommendation of how much tension needs to be in the spokes in numbers?
ОтветитьThanks for sharing your knowledge. Much appreciated.
Ответитьlike this vid alot.. thanks
ОтветитьAlways start with new parts an d the correct length of spokes ,word!!!
ОтветитьThank you!
I was having a hard time lacing, you taught it differently which made all the difference.
What about building a rear wheel with a freehub? Shall we use different spoke lengths? On other sources, it's recommended to use about 2mm longer spokes for the non drive side.
ОтветитьI just built a new rear wheel for my MTB with a 10 speed Deore hub but I wasn't satisfied with the end result. There was a high spot and I couldn't true it. So I removed all the spokes to try again from the beginning but I saw that the spokes on the drive side were slightly bent while the non drive side spokes were still straight. Is this normal?
ОтветитьGreat stuff, learned a lot, Thank You!
ОтветитьAt the 12 minute mark you talk about the direction of twist, as the drive side is tighter is there an optimal direction to twist on a disk brake wheel? Some builders do the next set on the opposite side why would you choose one over the other?
ОтветитьGreat video. Learning so much about bike rebuilding and wheel building, thanks!
ОтветитьGreat video. Thank you Mr Langley! You are a real master.
Ответитьwhat is a tension gage? are they useful? thanks.
