Not enough to deter enemy attack.

2 batteries won't do. Needs to buy dozens of these. Around 25-30 long range Air defense missile batteries with minimum 100-200km interception range. Plus 15-25 shore based anti ship batteries with around minimum 300 km interception range. Government should allot around 30b usd for both A2/AD platforms above and spread for 10-15 years and it would be affordable. That's 2-3 billion dollars per year lang. Kelangan lang talaga political will.

I don't know why people in the comment section are complaining but let me get the point clear.

1) Before the acquisition of the SPYDER-MR batteries the main line of air defense weapons were Mistral MANPADS of the Presidential Security Group and the Philippine Navy Jose Rizal class frigates, and WW2 vintage anti aircraft guns without proper radar guidance (ie Bofors 40mm and Oerlikon 20mm) along with the M39 cannons from the decomissioned F-5A and F-5Bs

2) Yes, 3 batteries will not be enough to stop the whole Chinese air force, but the Philippines does not need dozens of these to protect the whole nation. The Philippines will use these SPYDER MRs along side US Patriot SAM batteries to stop the Chinese air incursions.

3) Following from point 2, take a look at Ukraine, they dont have enough SAMs to cover their entire nation but they are still shooting down Russian jets and helicopters. This is the same principle, these SAMs will be used to defend key areas such as airfields, command and control centers, naval bases, etc.

4) The SPYDER MR is operating on a layered air defense, that is why the Philippines is also working on procuring modern multirole fighters and potentially AEWCS. This is along side the planned intergration to Data Link 16 of the US.

5) These 3 batteries of SPYDER MR is far away just the begining of a modernization efforts of the AFP in improving their air defense capabilities, there are plans for Stingers for the Army, VLS SAMs for the navy, and as said in point 4, multirole 4th generation fighters for the air force. The Philippines is entering a potential conflict with China from basically nearly 0. Compare what the AFP had in 2013 when the first South China Sea incident kicked off and compare that to what the AFP has to offer now.

In 2013, the Philippine Navy 2 Del Pilar class patrol vessels and 3 Peacock class corvettes as it's main assets. The Philippine Air Force had OV-10s and AS.211s as it's main line units. All with basically 0 anti air capability
Now in 2023, the Philippine Navy added another Del Pilar calss patrol vessel, 1 Pohang class corvette and 2 Jose Rizal class frigates to it's arsenal. The Philippine Air Force has received FA-50s, and A-29Bs to their roster, along with the SPYDER MRs.

6) Add to the fact the Philippines is building an extensive air search radar screen around the Western shoreline to guard the air space, combined with US Patriot batteries and US Naval ships, and US Air Force fighters. It makes a Chinese air incursion extremely difficult

7) The Philippine Marine Corps are in the middle of produring BrahMos anti ship cruise missiles. These also deter the Chinese aircraft carriers from venturing too close to the shore which in tern makes air raids have longer intervals between them. Same thing for the Chinese land based air forces.

All in told, yes 3 batteries of SPYDER MR wont be enough to deter China, but it is enough as a starting point in defending the Philippine Air Space. The AFP of 2023 is far and away more capable than their 2013 self who can barely put up a fight to defend the Philippine main land.
