That electric piano you are playing sounds beautiful. Is that a Nord? If so are you using the stock sounds or is that a plug-in?

Wow just wow, as a beginner (2 years now) this concept has not been explained to me by my tutor, all I must learn is straight forward reading with no soul and heart.

But stupid normal low IQ listener want to here stupid triad and 4 chords stupid songs 😂
If you play something good and sofisticated, idiots think, you cannot play and you are just messing around and faking pianists play.

Wow, it's inspiring! Playing the individual notes, according to the scale, means there is no need to strictly limited to remember which chord to play.

I always just follow the chord, maybe adding some passing notes

While the key is C (based on it being the first note played in the progression) was the Am in this case intended to be in scale or the relative minor as a chord substitution? Im not sure of the top of my head, if the A notes position would be minor sounding in the CMajor scale.

With which of your videos (if there is an appropriate one) would you start someone who doesn't really understand harmony? I studied enough (on paper, fifty-odd years ago) that I could, say, figure out what notes would be in a Bb half-diminished chord or calculate the replacement notes for negative harmony, but I don't have an innate sense of how they go together or how one chord seems to want to lead to another one. Where would I start?

I am many years guitar player, learning piano in my 40s and this pace, topics and flow of this video is just amazing. Never seen better teaching videos on piano. Thanks.

Fantastic video. Now that you have deconstructed what you are doing, I can see why your arrangements sound so good. You are not sticking to 1-3-5-7 for the chords, you are adding 9ths 11ths, and even some altered notes. Also, I had been avoiding consecutive seconds like the 9-3-11 you use. This really expands the sonic palette. Invaluable information. Thank you. One question; if there is a melody, do you usually keep it in the highest notes of every chord?

The lesson is insightful, but there is no way people can understand that first sentence — and a few more throughout — on a first listen. It'd be great for you to work on that dictation in order to grow as a communicator.

You're an excellent teacher. Thank you. Would you do tutorial on a long run with 1 or 2 cool patterns that can be played in between chords. I can't get past playing a straight pentatonic run. I see other piano gurus teaching long runs and fills but they don't have the gift of teaching like you do so they don't explain things well leaving me confused.

Michael, why do people like me (a "minority" lol.. puns) strongly dislike the sound of major triads, or finishing on a major tonic note?

I don't mind the major 3rd interval if other harmonic things are happening.

Just seems weird that the so called "happy" triad sounds so noticeably annoying to me.

Finishing on a C in C major sounds so annoying too. I don't understand it.

Its like someone feeding me a bowl of wet bread. But it seems lots of people like wet bread, and its a foundational component of cooking. Maybe you could do a poll, "what sounds best to you personally?":

- Major triad,
- 5th Interval
- Minor triad,
- bowl of wet bread Octave.

Poll: Or what sounds worst to you personally? (There is no wrong answer!)...

- E+F together
- E Major chord
- E+A# together
- E Minor chord

It would be very interesting to see the distribution! Cheers, keep up the great work.
