You MUST DO THIS Before The Installing MicroSD Express Card In The Nintendo Switch 2

I put my card in before I even powered my switch 2 on and it’s working fine

I put the sdcard in before turning it on and updating, I can report that there were zero negative effects on the sdcard. Good looking out though

Wrong… the os tells you to put the card in while it’s turned on and does the update straight after then restarts 😃

I’m gonna order my express SD card today and receive it tomorrow, but I’m gonna do all the updates tonight when I get home from work

Didn’t follow directions.
Got mine at midnight launch.
Slapped it in, turned it on, did it’s auto update, and started downloading games. Everything works fine.

I found a few 2 terabyte cards on amazon for cheap. I bought a couple different brands.

I'm just gonna stick with my modded 3ds. No online games bullshit, simple microsd card and games easily installed with save files inside the game + all the fun free stuff in it + all the backwards compatibility unlocked. Just going to wait when the console will be dead and the modding community does their job

Please just DON'T BUY the switch 2. Giving them your money just shows them you're completely okay with not actually owning stuff and the company just bricking your device when they feel like it.

This device is not user friendly and parents are not going to gift this to a child. NS2 is made for young adults who can follow Nintendo's strict guidelines.

I just picked up a 512g at Walmart for 65. Onn brand 800 speed. Said compatible with switch 2 on package.

I didn't realize the SD Card was just tucked in behind the stand....that's weird...

It's on the Switch 2 because, at least as far as the day-one model is concerned, the software is so locked that you can barely do anything with it.
This is intended to prevent pre-release active consoles from being used.
So if you already have one, you're currently stuck with a very overpriced paperweight.

Do we need the SD card immediately or can we wait until we have more memory being used on the Switch 2? I know for my Switch I didn’t get an SD right away. Waited until I was running out space.

That's not at all what that means. When it says a system update is required, it means that an OPTIONAL system update needs to be installed. The update is optional, because people without a MicroSD Express card cannot download the update, but as soon as a MicroSD Express card goes in, then the system prompts you to perform a system update. This is the same thing with the Switch. If you insert a MicroSD card into a system already on the latest update, it will still ask you to perform a system update, because it needs additional content for HorizonOS (+ it needs to format your SD) in order to use the MicroSD card.

You’re wrong, there will be a separate update to add support for the microSD Card. It’s isn’t a firmware bump update.
