Fix CHKDSK Is Not Available for RAW Drives

I have 1.3 TB data, and i want to recover a little amount of data (less than 100MB) not all of it before using TestDisk. is there a way to select those particular files??

Hi Using Administrator Command Prompt I get as far as CLEAN then get the Disk part has encountered an error: Incorrect function see system event log for more information. Does this mean it's are stuffed?

While Disk Drill was scanning my external HDD, suddenly all my files showed up again. I quickly started saving everything to a safe drive. Once all the files were saved, I closed Disk Drill, and guess what? The external HDD turned back to RAW and couldn’t be read again. But when I scanned it again with Disk Drill, the files showed up once more! So I guess the files become accessible only while it’s being scanned by Disk Drill. That’s the time you gotta rescue them. I don’t even care about the external HDD anymore—as long as all my old files are safe!

Hi there, I've never had an issue before with my WD Elements 3TB Portable Hard Drive; it recently dropped whilst being plugged in behind the TV; after that it doesn't allow to properly access the files and copy them or play videos. It also comes up with an error saying, "Location is not available. D:/ is not accessible. The device is not ready."

So I have an external hard drive, shows up in grey letters
I can’t mount it
First aid won’t work
I tried connecting it to a different Apple laptop nothing happened
I went to connect it to my pc and it made my pc go extremely slow wen trying to do anything
I tried check disk and got the not available for raw drives

Disk not showing up on Diskpart and I know its a RAW file system. I also got some cannot lock error there. Btw Diskdrill is expensive, I used DMDE and paid $16.00 for a year license. It recovered all my files but I had no storage to place all of them so I recovered some and left the files that are in RAW section to recover another time. To not lose the files that are in RAW section I set the file system to RAW not knowing what RAW really is :( I thought the files were RAW files. Right now it shows up as removeable at ''My PC''. I try to run the recovery software but it keeps giving me 1117 I/O device errors and says device is not ready. Bad sectors in it. Chkdsk D: /f doesn't respond either. Still waiting for the Disk Management to appear after 15 min.

I have a 32 gb micro SD card that got corrupted. It kept giving me the to reformat message. I tried the chkdsk to fix it and it gave me the RAW error message. I don't remember what i had in it. I just want to see ehats in thetr before committing to buying anu data recovery software. Can i just download the free version to scan it to see what's on there then come back some other time to recover it?

Got it checked with a Data Recovery Service, came to know that Disk health is showing 8% on Hard Disk Sentinel and the heads might have become weak hence the explorer hangs up trying to access the data. It is a Seagate Ultra Touch 2TB and the warranty just ended in November 2024! I haven't even formatted it once in its lifetime and it was just filled with 1.2 TB data! :(
Even the Disk Management hangs up if I try to check while the HDD is connected. Didn't try TestDisk though, or any of your recovery tools, should I? Gave Recuva a shot but it too threw the RAW file system error.

Will using TestDisk wipe out the data on the external HDD? My drive is a 2TB Seagate, it is getting detected and shows space left as well, but Windows Explorer stops responding if I open it. It asks me to repair the drive but fails to complete it successfully even after multiple retries! I was copying around 100 GB data and I cancelled it after 21 GB, then every thing got stuck and not responding. :(
