When We Left

When We Left is built around the experience of the Chilean musician Vladimir Vega, a former political prisoner released to come to Britain in the amnesty of 1980 and a founder member of the Grand Union Orchestra. Lyrics by Vladimir and David Bradford describe his personal experience; but its universality – the mixture of anger, regret, hope and apprehension felt by refugees departing for life in a strange land – give this material a powerful contemporary resonance.
