Did you
Switch to Fastly to avoid slow upgrades?
I never upgrade. I just back up my files and do a clean install. I made a video earlier on this year where I upgraded Ubuntu from 18.04 all the way to 23.10 step by step. It was a good upgrade tool but nowhere near as easy as simply installing from scratch
ОтветитьI upgraded with a USB install it took less than an hour. I always unplug other drives when installing. No chance of corruption this way.
ОтветитьFor a desktop computer, a 128GB SSD can be purchased for less than $25.00 double that for less than $50.00. So yes, I would get a new drive and do a fresh install, then copy my files over. Then the old drive is a backup. Thanks for the heads-up about the long time to upgrade. As they say "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".
ОтветитьThanks for that. I've been debating on whether to upgrade from 21.3. This settles it: Nope. I'm in rural Jamaica and can't count on the power staying up for the hours necessary, and don't want to do a fresh install. I'm happy with 21.3, anyway.
Ответитьwhen I upgraded my Linux mint I didn't take that long
Ответитьsto provando ad aggiornarlo con lo strumento mintupgrade ma esce sempre la scritta "collegare il computer a una fonte di alimentazione" e non mi fa procedere. il mio è un pc portatile collegato sempre con il cavo di alimentazione
Ответитьnice video, thank you!
I wasted a lot of time with etcher error, preventing the upgrade because there seems to be a missing permission there 😞 - the mintupgrade process should have a step to help disable or remove problematic repositories - or maybe there is a separate wizard to do this? (yes I am a dumb linux user - if we want to degafamize the world linux should be available to idiots like me 😁 )
My NVidia 3070 Ti stopped working after upgrading to 22. Sigh.
ОтветитьI agree with your comments. I have been using LinuxMint for several years. This is the 1st time they dropped the ball with a shoddy upgrade. I waited for one hour while the upgrade checked out my Timeshift backups. I never did reach the system upgrade phase. I finally stopped the upgrade and wiped 21.3 off my drive. I did a new install of LinuxMint 22 and added my backups along with the Awesome backup. I wanted to leave you a short note on your help with Awesome. I am close to configuring Awesome the way I like it. Please thank Hope for adding to your Awesome video.
ОтветитьHi Mench,
Thanks for your Video
With your consent I repost my comment on your Video "Linux Mint 22 Install" in case can help other LinuxMintUsers
I do subscribe all your comments about upgrading to 22
I started upgrading Mint 21.3 to 22 last Saturday 08-17 and being unable to do it up to now!
Started upgrading (21.3) in my PC and after it broke I'd to reinstall my last snapshot
Then I opened my old virtual machine (VM) Mint 21.2 in Qemu, updated to 21.3 and tried to upgrade to 22 with no avail (I get stacked in a Login loop without booting) and after having broken 6 or 7 virtual machines I downloaded Mint 22 ISO and installed virtually from the ISO without problem
IT'S BEEN A SAD SURPRISE to realize it's easier to update my VM Arch plasma (kernel 6.10), Fedora 40 and other known distros than upgrading my Mint 21.3 PC
And yes I still have my LinuxMint 21.3 on main PC (as it was before last saturday)
