Rayid Ghani, director of the Center for Data Science and Public Policy at the University of Chicago, discusses using data science to predict policing incidents, from excessive force to officer injury. The work of Ghani and the center stretches across government, using predictive analytics, machine learning and other data science tools to improve public health, education, economic development and public safety. Ghani brings a unique perspective to the center, which is a collaboration between the Harris School of Public Policy and UChicago’s Computation Institute, having served as chief scientist for President Barack Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign.
