Congrats on the awesome pick-up. Collecting is fun, no matter what you are collecting. I sell stuff to buy PC things but am very discerning (ie cheap) in what I buy....more interested in photo variations that anyting. ENJOY!
ОтветитьCongrats on the puchase Scott and thanks for sharing
ОтветитьCongrats on the purchase. I've been back collecting now for almost 2 years and never had a 1 of 1. Thanks for sharing the video and the story.
ОтветитьThought you might enjoy this story. I grew up a royals fan in Chicago so me and dad would always go to royals white sox games at the cell. One time, before bp we were standing by the royals dugout and Billy was standing there talking to some representative from the royals. I asked him if he would sigh my hat and he did very kindly and threw my hat back up to me. Only in person auto ive ever gotten and it was awesome Ive always loved country breakfast ever since. Sadly lost the hat in a move as Ive gotten older but still one of the best moments as a young fan all those years ago.
ОтветитьWhat a haul! Congrats dude. Can't imagine the feeling, the ultimate pc haha
ОтветитьThats awesome, Scottie! Congrats!
ОтветитьHe was a good player!
ОтветитьHoly mackerel!!! What a purchase. Probably the best collection of a single player I’ve ever seen. Congrats on that purchase!
ОтветитьVery cool lot
ОтветитьHey, this is Billy. Get off my 🫘
😂 Jk great collection
Congratulations Scottie, that is a mega pickup! I can hear the joy in your voice as you sort through these. For hobby enjoyment, I think you are right; balancing the investment side high end purchases with the fun & simplicity of player collecting keeps things on an even keel.
I collect active era Carlton Fisk cards (1972-1993) and on mail days where new additions arrive along with other cards that are far more valuable, I end up looking at the Fisk cards first every time 😀.
Wish Elly didn’t get me back into cards. It’s expensive
ОтветитьReally cool to see such a rare collection find the light of day. I have a huge Nick Madrigal collection. His career went into the toilet, but that just makes his rare stuff affordable to me. I always like the fact that a guy as small as he is was able to be drafted 4th overall and make it to the show.
ОтветитьI think it’s safe to say you that you now have THE BEST Billy Butler collection out there.
ОтветитьNot sure who is more excited, Scott B for adding to his collection, or the guy who sold it to him..... "Finally, someone to buy my butlers!". Sorry man, I just had to do it. I'll be in the same boat in a few years with all my Henry Davis cards.
ОтветитьVery nice!
ОтветитьYou prob won’t say what you paid but how the heck do you even come up with a value/price on a collection like this?
ОтветитьThat’s insane! I have a few player collections from that era and that kind of stuff never shows up anymore.
ОтветитьLove it. As my name says this is what it is all about. Great video!!!
ОтветитьNice man congratulations. I know you are happy 🤙🏻
ОтветитьGlad you got a good pickup for a player you like. I like to collect more obscure players too; i.e. Charlie Keller, Bob Meusel, Tommy Henrich and one of the most forgotten HoF players of all-time Bill Dickey. ⚾ 🇺🇲
ОтветитьWow what a collection Scottie. This is what collecting is all about
ОтветитьI have a UD Billy Butler Masterpiece card, not a 1/1 lol but it's on ebay :)
ОтветитьExcellent way cool 😮 congrats
ОтветитьCards like these are very hard to find. They don't pop up on ebay every day. They aren't on the tables at shows, where breadth and depth of selection is geared more toward mass appeal. Way to go. Jim cultivated a fine collection, and he sold to the right collector. Good stuff.
ОтветитьWould you sell the Florida insert?
ОтветитьIts all about collecting what you like. I been doing this same thing collecting all the different Mark Grace cards I can find. Solid player, not a hall of famer but the pkayer who made an impression on me as a kid.
ОтветитьI love random player collections! The story behind why people collect any player that isn't a superstar is always interesting to me! Great content Scottie!
ОтветитьCountry breakfast
ОтветитьAwesome collection. Would love to see a longer video showcasing your entire Butler PC together, explaining everything. I wasn't in the hobby during those years and would love to see and learn about them.
ОтветитьI hope someday the 1/1's that I don't have of my PC player become available like this.
ОтветитьGreat video
ОтветитьI’m jealous, I couldn’t even imagine finding an Astudillo collection like that 😱
ОтветитьYes! This is what being a player collector is all about. The 'end game', so to speak.
ОтветитьBesides the 'awesome grail purchase' aspects of the video, the other takeaway for me was the ongoing realization that there's just too many cards for any given player. Billy's from an era when print runs were significantly lower, and yet the overlap between sets and abundance of parallels still existed. As you've indicated in other videos, there's just too much of a good thing now and only the top 2 or 3 players of any generation are going to hold value based on the abundance/availability of cards. Collecting someone like Billy, after their career fades, is a good idea from a cost/benefit side of the hobby. Imagine how much of Jim's money vanished from when he first purchased those cards. Yikes!
Along those lines, I've been surprised no one has done a Wander Franco "how much hobby money vanished" video yet. There must be a cumulative ten million in overall card value drop for all the collectors hoarding the next sure thing. Cautionary tales aren't for those who won't listen, but there's many who will. Wander is a great case study because we have card ladder and eBay terapeak for the three years back in sales history to extrapolate data for his entire card boom/bust cycle. It's a unique snapshot we really haven't ever had in the hobby with all the electronic price tracking that never existed prior, making the relative ease of calculating such losses 'easy' compared to anytime in the past. If I was more of a spreadsheet/data guy I'd be doing it myself.
Congrats! What a great collection.
ОтветитьYou're now officially a "TRUE" Collector 🤝 Welcome to the club!
PS Wanna buy some Drummonds? 🤣
Did he say how much he paid for the lot?
ОтветитьWow, very cool. The player does not have to be a super star to be collectible. What a great assortment to have in your PC. Thanks for sharing.
ОтветитьI have one Billy butler auto
ОтветитьWas he on the 2015 royals ?
ОтветитьThis is awesome. I personally player collect miguel cabrera. It's fun to collect as many unique cards of him as possible, regardless of the value.
ОтветитьYou should have met this guy earlier. You probably cost each other money over the years, bidding against each other.
ОтветитьScottie gonna open a Butler print shop with all them plates :D
ОтветитьThis was really cool to watch, yet also super depressing to see how many cards i probably don't even know about that i need to collect!! Lol 😂 i do lots of stuff but my main is Yu Darvish and it was for the same "getting me back into the hobby" reason...i got one cool card, he played for my Cubbies and o started collecting...only to realize he'd been traded in the offseason...i kept with it, as i found him affordable and the hobby fun again!! It is weird tho that, for me and I'm sure you and others too, you think you pick sorta an obscure player and you're the only collector...never the case...awesome collection btw... especially with those being just "the good ones"... it's fun to do stuff piece by piece, delay the entire gratification, but can't wait til the day I can (hopefully) pick up one big lot like that too
ОтветитьBilly is the nicest MLB player I've ever met. During his first few seasons, I had a bunch of interactions with him. After almost every home game he'd walk through the parking lot with his wife. He and his wife would be talking to the fans for an hour or 2 each time. He'd sign a full page of 9 cards and ask if you had any more. At one point, I had over 300 cards signed by him. I eventually quit bringing cards and would just talk to him for a few minutes.
ОтветитьRoyals fan here. I loved Billy Butler. He had some good years. I love that you collect Billy. If we aren't having fun, then what are we doing? I should have a few Billy sigs that I got after Royals games stored away. I would rather watch content like this then all the hobby drama videos.
ОтветитьI sense a disturbance in the force::: Many people suddenly going to the Billy Butler Baseball Reference page, to see who he is, when he played, and what his stats were.
ОтветитьScott, the card that has Billy’s signature and Cal Ripken’s signature might be from when Billy won the Hutch award. I know they sat together at the presentation og the award.
ОтветитьA few other reasons I collect Billy Butler:
-My dad was a high school basketball coach and Billy used to be his assistant coach in the offseason. Billy and I used to play horse, and it was fun hanging out with him at my dad's practices.
-Billy played for the Idaho Falls Chukars which was the Low A affiliate of the Royals when I was a kid. The Chukars were a big part of my childhood so I got to watch him play there.
